JACKSONVILLE – The work is starting to show results.

Day 19 of Jaguars 2026 Training Camp on Tuesday at the Miller Electric Center featured the first of two joint practices with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in advance of the team’s Preseason Week 3 game at EverBank Stadium Friday night.

For Head Coach Liam Coen, Tuesday showed the kind of improvement the Jaguars have shown over the course of camp.

"You're pleased with the progression," he said.

The Jaguars have held multiple joint practices this summer after just one joint practice in 2025. Coen and Jaguars players have spoken highly about the value of such practices, and Coen said he liked much about Tuesday's work.

"It was physical," he said. "It was a good physical practice. Obviously, got to go watch the tape. There's a ton to clean up. I was pleased with the way they started faster.

"Had little dips and lulls that you just get frustrated with but like I told them, 'It's kind of how football games are. There are ebbs and flows. How do we handle them? How do we respond to them?' But was really appreciative of the work."

The Jaguars on Tuesday made big plays on both sides of the ball, with the defense having a notably impressive day with interceptions by safety Antonio Johnson and cornerback Montaric Brown. Defensive end Josh Hines-Allen also had a strong practice.

"I feel like the physicality was definitely there for us today," Jaguars defensive end Travon Walker said. "That's something that we pride ourselves on, being the most physical group on in the league in general and just whooping the man in front of us.

"I feel like we just continuously keep taking steps in the right direction."

As for the offense, the Jaguars started hot with big completions downfield to wide receiver Parker Washington and tight end Brenton Strange. The running game also was strong, with running backs Chris Rodriguez Jr. and Bhayshul Tuten finding creases throughout the day to take advantage of the Buccaneers' front.

When it comes to areas of improvement for the Jaguars this summer, the running game might be at the top of the list. Coen after practice said there "was some good stuff out there today" from the Jaguars' running back duo.

"We've made some strides in that department," Coen said, noting that Rodriguez shined in a joint practice against the Carolina Panthers last week with Tuten having "a really nice day" against the Buccaneers.

"He was hitting it and had a burst at the second and third level," Coen said of Tuten.

The Jaguars' offense did have to deal with an early exit in practice Tuesday from third-year receiver Brian Thomas Jr., who came up with discomfort after a diving touchdown catch on the first offensive play from scrimmage.

Thomas came off the field after the catch, returned one play later for one play, then did not return to practice for the rest of the day. Coen said that he believes Thomas is "alright."

"Just came down on his shoulder," Coen said. "I think we'll just hold him out, be smart, keep him out, and then get him to go for [the regular-season opener against the] Cleveland [Browns] at EverBank Stadium September 13."

PLAY OF THE DAY

The Jaguars generated big plays on both sides of the ball, but the biggest came on the offense's first play in team drills. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw deep downfield to Thomas, who ran past cornerback Zyon McCollum for several steps of separation. Lawrence found Thomas deep down the middle, where Thomas made a diving catch for the most explosive play of the day from the Jaguars' offense.

STANDING OUT

• Hines-Allen had a disruptive day, recording several sacks off Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield and consistently setting the edge against the run. The Buccaneers did not seem to have many answers for the franchise sack leader. Also recording sacks for the Jaguars' defense were nose tackle DaVon Hamilton and linebacker Dennis Gardeck.
• Jaguars rookie receivers Josh Cameron and CJ Williams got extended time with the first-team offense. Cameron caught a touchdown from Lawrence in the red zone and also converted a third down with a downfield catch during the end-of-game drill at the end of practice.
• Middle linebacker Foyesade Oluokun was around the ball all day, recovering a fumble forced by safety Eric Murray early in practice before nearly intercepting Mayfield at the end of practice.
• Jonson stood out in a big way, intercepting Mayfield in team drills and then collecting a pass breakup on the very next play.

INJURY WATCH

Thomas did not participate after his touchdown reception early in team drills, with cornerback Jourdan Lewis not participating in team drills Tuesday. Right tackle Cole Van Lanen (knee) continued working in individual work after moving from the Physically Unable to Perform list to the active roster last Thursday. Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers remained out of practice, as did offensive linemen Patrick Mekari and Geron Christian Jr. and linebacker Jack Kiser. Defensive tackle Kelvie Rose and running back LeQuint Allen Jr. also did not practice Tuesday.
