First off the field: Day 11

8-10-21-Hamilton

JACKSONVILLE – Things got quiet and stayed intense.

The Jaguars practiced in full pads Tuesday on Day 11 of 2021 Training Camp – a spirited two-hour, ten-minute session in 90-degree temperatures at the Dream Finders Homes Practice Complex.

"Hot day today," Jaguars defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton said, "but we made it through."

The practice was closed to fans, with the last open practice of '21 camp having been held this past Sunday. The Jaguars are scheduled to practice Wednesday and Thursday at 9:45 a.m., and to play host to the Cleveland Browns in the 2021 preseason opener at TIAA Bank Field Saturday at 7 p.m.

Hamilton and safety Josh Jones both spoke to the media following practice.

A major topic:

Training camp practices under Urban Meyer, who is in his first season as the Jaguars' head coach – and for whom Hamilton played at Ohio State University from 2015-2016.

"It's always going to be tough, but that competition, that heat – everything – is going to build is and help us become better than we were," Hamilton said. "I'm very excited. I want to win games. That's the No. 1 thing in this league: You've got to win."

Safety Josh Jones was asked about the energy of a Meyer practice.

"It doesn't compare to anything," he said. "You guys have been our here. When you come out here and see us practicing and see us work, it's like, 'We're going.' It's non-stop. That's good. It's embedded in our head. Guys need that.

"We were 1-15 last year. No matter how hot it is … I don't care if it's 115 [degrees] … we're coming out here to work. We're coming out here to give plus-two, to give maximum effort."

Hamilton said while he has heard Meyer's message before, the head coach's words still resonate.

"You have to pay attention every time," he said. "You never know when he's going to throw a question at you, when he's going to expect something out of you. It's a challenge, on and off the field."

In addition to Jones and Hamilton, assistant head coach/inside linebackers Charlie Strong spoke to the media following practice Tuesday. Coverage of those availabilities can be seen Tuesday on Jaguars Media channels and jaguars.com.

Here's a look at Tuesday's practice:

PLAY OF THE DAY

That was the first of two interceptions by the secondary Tuesday, with safety Jarrod Wilson intercepting a long pass to Hammond later in practice.
