JACKSONVILLE – Travis Hunter stole the show Sunday.
Actually, he stole it twice.
Hunter's two-way performance was the highlight of Day 4 of Jaguars 2026 Training Camp at the Miller Electric Center Sunday, with the second-year cornerback/wide receiver making eye-catching plays at both positions.
"I just like watching him play," Jaguars wide receiver Jakobi Meyers said. "I've been watching him for a long time. I feel like everybody's been watching him."
Hunter's two stellar plays Sunday came minutes apart.
He first recorded an interception off backup quarterback Nick Mullens during team drills for his first takeaway of training camp. Moments later, Hunter won a contested catch downfield on a pass from starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence to bring the practice crowd to their feet.
"The deep reception was awesome to see," Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski said of Hunter, the No. 2 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft who missed the last 10 regular-season games last season with a knee injury.
"It's great getting back out there with the guys. He has such an infectious energy that it affects not just the receivers, probably the offensive line coaches and everybody out there."
Hunter has been busy early in training camp, taking repetitions at cornerback and wide receiver throughout team drills. After splitting time between the two positions as a rookie, his development at both spots has been one of the top stories of training camp.
"He's like the country's son," Meyers said. "We're all just kind of watching him grow up as a man. I just think he's a really good dude, honestly. He's fun to be around. He's always a jolt of energy, always laughing, always smiling.
"It's hard to be upset when he's in the room and it's hard to be upset when he's on the field. So, we're winning when he's good."
Hunter isn't the only Jaguars pass-catcher entering '26 camp experienced in second-year Head Coach Liam Coen's offensive system. The value of experience and the accompanying added continuity extends to receivers and tight ends such as Meyers, Brenton Strange, and Brian Thomas Jr.
"I think for everybody, we have a little bit clearer picture of who they are and who we want to be and how we as coaches can help bring the best out of them," Udinski said. "As you get a bigger and bigger sample size, that becomes easier.
"That's one of the challenges of Year 1, where you don't necessarily know where guys fit within our system. And really, on us as coaches, it's more about adapting our system to them. So, the more reps we get together and the more communication we have about how they see things, how they see defenses, how they like to approach this route or how they like to maybe approach a certain look, allows us to build things around them."
Here is a look at Sunday's practice.
PLAY OF THE DAY
Hunter made the day's two biggest plays, but the most impressive one was the catch downfield from Trevor Lawrence. There was tight coverage on the play. Hunter had to go up and win the ball in the air, and he did exactly that. Hunter proved his ball skills are as legitimate as any other part of his game, and it was one of the most impressive catches any player has made in camp through four practices.
STANDING OUT
- Wide receiver Parker Washington made a sliding touchdown catch at the end of practice from Lawrence, continuing his strong camp. He has been a tough cover for the entire defense throughout camp and Sunday was another noteworthy day.
- Second-year defensive end B.J. Green II continues to stand out during team drills. He recorded a would-be sack during early team drills, and has drawn praise this week from Coen.
- Rookie wide receiver CJ Williams made a big catch over the middle of the field, connecting with Mullens after adjusting in the air to come down with the ball.
INJURY WATCH
Running back Chris Rodriguez practiced in team drills for the first time since joining the Jaguars as a restricted free agent this past March. Rodriguez, who played his first three seasons with the Washington Commanders, sustained a left foot injury early in the offseason program. Second-year linebacker Jack Kiser missed practice for a third consecutive day with a knee injury sustained early in practice Wednesday; he is expected to return later in training camp/preseason. Left tackle Cole Van Lanen (knee) and offensive lineman Garrett DiGiorgio (foot) remain on the Physically Unable to Perform list to start camp.
