First off the field: Day 2

RIK_8835

JACKSONVILLE – The weather stayed bearable, and the pads stayed off.

The unpadded nature of the practice gave Day 2 of Jaguars 2019 Training Camp a relatively low-key feel, with the Jaguars working for about two hours, 30 minutes Friday morning in 83-degree temperatures at the Dream Finders Homes Practice Complex adjacent to TIAA Bank.

Defensive end Calais Campbell met with the media after practice Friday. Jaguars Head Coach Doug Marrone, after speaking to the media Thursday morning, did not appear at the podium Friday. Coverage of Campbell's availability can be found throughout the day on jaguars.com.

Camp will continue Saturday with an 8:40 a.m. practice open to season-ticket members. The Jaguars' first padded practice of camp is scheduled for Sunday at 8:40 a.m.

Marrone is scheduled to speak to the media at 8:15 a.m. Saturday.

Here's a look at Day 2 practice:

PLAY OF THE DAY

*This came early Friday – on the first play of team drills, in fact. New Jaguars starting quarterback Nick Foles found new wide receiver Chris Conley deep down field, who caught the pass despite coverage from second-year cornerback Quenton Meeks. Foles, who played with Conley in Kansas City in 2016, had good chemistry with Conley throughout the on-field portion of the offseason program – and that appears to have continued early in camp.

STANDING OUT

*Safety Fish Smithson, signed by the Jaguars Thursday, intercepted reserve quarterback Alex McGough early in practice and returned it for a touchdown. …

*Wide receiver Dede Westbrook caught an intermediate pass down the sideline from Foles early in practice, and Foles later hit third-year veteran Keelan Cole on a long gain down the sideline. …

*Cornerback Breon Borders intercepted rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew, who also had a long completion early in practice to tight end Ben Koyack. …

*Running backs Leonard Fournette, Benny Cunningham and Thomas Rawls had long runs in the unpadded work. …

INJURY WATCH

Wide receiver Marqise Lee and left tackle Cam Robinson remain on the Physically Unable to Perform list; Lee missed last season with a preseason knee injury that included a torn anterior cruciate ligament while Robinson missed the last 14 games of the season with a torn ACL. Linebacker Jake Ryan (knee) remains on the Reserve/Non-Football injury list. Those were the only three Jaguars players not practicing Friday.

NOTABLE

*Fourth-year linebacker Myles Jack returned to practice Friday after missing Day 1 because he was sick. He worked with the starters and was a full participant.

*Cornerback A.J. Bouye participated in individual drills and was on the stationary bike during team work. Nickel D.J. Hayden worked opposite Jalen Ramsey in team drills with Tre Herndon and Meeks working at corner in passing drills.

*Second-year receiver DJ Chark Jr. and third-year receiver Dede Westbrook worked with the starters, but Conley, Cole and Pryor all have worked extensively with the front-line offense the first two days. …

*The Jaguars' starting offensive line Thursday: left tackle Leonard Wester, guard Andrew Norwell, center Brandon Linder, right guard A.J. Cann and right tackle Cedric Ogbuehi; Josh Wells had worked at left tackle Thursday with Robinson not yet practicing while returning from his ACL injury.

*The Jaguars continue to be cautious with rookie edge defender Josh Allen. The No. 7 overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, Allen missed all but one day of organized team activities and minicamp in May and June because of a knee bruise. He has participated in individual drills Thursday and Friday, but did not appear to participate in team drills either day. With Ngakoue out and Allen not working team drills, veteran Lerentee McCray worked with the first-team at pass-rushing end.
