JACKSONVILLE – The line is ready to get back to work.

In the wake of a Week 2 loss to the Denver Broncos, the Jaguars' offensive line will be tested again in Week 3 against the defending AFC New England Patriots. Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen knows what he expects from the unit Sunday.

"I'm confident in that group and their ability to respond," Coen said Monday.

The Jaguars' offensive line faced what was likely one of their toughest matchups of the season in a 20-13 loss Sunday against a Broncos defensive line that included Pro Bowl and All-Pro defenders Zach Allen and Nik Bonitto – a duo that combined for four quarterback hits.

"Zach Allen really disrupted things inside," Coen said. "We all kind of took our turns a little bit upfront. It wasn't necessarily one guy on, for the majority of the game. I think we all kind of took our turns."

The Broncos recorded seven total hits and two sacks on Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence Sunday, a week after the Jaguars allowed one sack and three hits in a 34-10 Week 1 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

"After watching, it's going to come down to your one-on-one matchups and I think your technique and fundamentals," Jaguars center and offensive captain Robert Hainsey said. "For us as a group, that's a lot of it."

Coen said upon reviewing the game, "The run game was a little bit better than it maybe felt at times."

"We had some decent movement," Coen said. "I thought we handled some movement well and some pressures. In the pass pro, I think, we got edged a little bit. We have to do a better job of moving the launch point, doing some things to be able to help those guys, so they're not just getting teed off on and some of the longer down in distances getting the ball out a little bit more, some longer developing routes that, the ball's getting held onto a little bit.

"I don't think we helped them with some of that. Definitely wasn't necessarily one guy, that hurt us."

Coen on Monday said how the Jaguars perform in practice during the week is critical for each game. This is especially true for the offensive line, said Hainsey, considering the detail involved at the position.

"It's taking those things and making note of them, understanding them, understanding why it happened, maybe what you did, what you could've done a little bit better, and being super intentional when we come out on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday," Hainsey said. "'How can I work that thing? How can I get the rep at that technique and fundamental?' "

Attention to details and fundamentals have been key talking points since the Jaguars' loss Sunday. Faced with a stout front and a loud atmosphere that famously makes offensive communication difficult, the Jaguars had to battle the Broncos on multiple fronts.

"I thought it was pretty solid," Hainsey said. "It was a loud atmosphere. We're definitely having to talk a little bit and make sure we're on the same page. We didn't get every call and that's not really acceptable. It is a tough environment.

"It's something we have to learn from. It's something we have to continue to work on and practice whenever we're going to be in our next away game in a couple of weeks. We have quite a few coming up, so it's going to be a consistent thing that we have to continue to work on getting to play in the huddle, understanding the checks and when they're going to come, and then make sure we hear them and are able to get to our new assignments."

Beyond fundamentals and communication, the emphasis for the line, and really the entire offense this week, may come down to the "edge" Coen often discusses.

"Critical moments call for being at our best when our best is required," Coen said. "As coaches, as a staff, how do we continue to communicate to let them go play freely?

"We have to be better in practice. It's really what it comes down to. I know it's Coach Speak, but if we don't do it throughout the week of practice, it's not going to happen on Sunday. If we're not sticking to our blocks in practice on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and kicking our show team's tail, then it's not going to show up on Sunday."
