Patrick Talks The Day After Week 11 Victory vs. Chargers: "We showed we're a good team…"

DAY AFTER WK11

JACKSONVILLE – Sunday was impressive, dominant and positive.

Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen on Monday said the Jaguars' task now is to approach that level more often, more consistently.

"We owe it to each other to play that way the rest of the year as much as possible," he said.

Coen spoke to the media Monday morning, a day after a 35-6 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers (7-4) at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville – a game in which the Jaguars (6-4) played perhaps their most complete game of the 2025 regular season to date.

Jaguars wide receiver Tim Patrick called Sunday's victory "huge."

"It's one of those games where you kind of size yourself up and see where you guys are at and how we could finish the season," Patrick said. "That team was 7-3 at the time, one of the hottest teams in the NFL that people think is a really good team.

"We went out there and showed them that we have that caliber. We showed that we're a good team and when we put it all together that we could go out there and beat anybody."

Coen, who on Sunday said the Jaguars played "pissed off" against the Chargers – and that they play their best in that situation – on Monday discussed extensively the task of having the team play that way moving forward.

"That has to be our mindset as a team – that we owe each other now to put that on tape as much as possible for the remainder of the season and let the results be what they may," Coen said. "If we can approach it that way and find the inner mindset every week – that you have to get yourself in a position to go compete that way as a team, and each player has to get themselves there and it's our job to get the units there …

"Hopefully, we can understand that moving forward."

Coen and Jaguars players following Sunday's victory described the week leading to the game as quiet – the aftereffects of an emotional loss to the Houston Texans the previous Sunday, a game in which the Jaguars lost a 19-point fourth-quarter lead.

"I just wanted to see if we would come out with the same fight as we did in Houston and we did exactly that," Patrick said. "But this time it was just a different type of energy where we knew the lead wasn't safe after what happened last week, and we made sure we kept our foot on the throttle the whole time."

Coen on Monday discussed having "good, honest, open conversations" with multiple players last week.

"A number of those guys did respond this past week with the right mindset, mentality – and want to do right, want to help be a part of change, and help be a part of the reason we continue to elevate and raise the standard here," Coen said, adding: "Ultimately, that message is going to continue to be sent throughout the locker room and spread throughout this building is that, 'Hey man, we've got to play pissed off and efficient and execute like that for four quarters. Everybody, that's the standard.' "

Coen called learning how the team responds to adversity "part of the journey of being in this role, and being in this organization."

"You're able to learn every week," he said. "In life, just like in football, the best lessons usually come when you go through something hard. That not only helps us as players and as coaches and as a team, it helps us as people grow and learn. That's ultimately the essence of sport.

"What makes these guys respond? What helps them get to the place they have to get to mentally to go play a game like we just did? You're finding new things about your team every week. It is part of the journey. You want to be able to see that kind of level of execution, passion and energy every week. That's the standard. That's the opportunity we have.

"That's the challenge, though, of coaching and playing in the NFL – is doing it week in and week out."

The Jaguars, winners of two of their last three games, remain two games behind the Indianapolis Colts (8-2) in the AFC South with two games remaining against the Colts. They are currently in the seventh and final "playoff" spot in the AFC.

"Playing meaningful games in November and December are earned opportunities," Coen said. "The way that we go and approach each week is what gives us the opportunity and that right. We all see how we have to prepare and play for us to have success."
