Oluokun Talks Team's Energy the Day After Week 16 Win Over Broncos: "A Fun Group to Be Around…"

DAY AFTER WK16

JACKSONVILLE – The camaraderie is as real as the winning.

The Jaguars are 11-4 with the NFL's second-longest active winning streak – and as Head Coach Liam Coen and players see it, there's plenty of cool off-field stuff going into the impressive on-field stuff.

These guys like each other – and with that, has come success.

"It's been a fun group to be around so far," Coen said.

Coen spoke Monday, a day after a 34-20 road victory over the Denver Broncos moved the Jaguars to within a game of the AFC's top seed – and as much as standings, Monday's Jaguars conversation focused on the closeness around a team with the NFL's second-longest winning streak.

"We are ourselves in the building and we don't really care about outside the building," Jaguars linebacker Foyesade Oluokun said. "Obviously there are cameras showing that stuff for outside, the media and all that stuff, but we took it upon ourselves earlier in the year to just look inward and be part of this little brotherhood, this little community that we're forming inside this building.

"Everybody's really coming together tighter. Everybody's allowed to just be themselves and be happy after these wins. And we know what it takes to really come out on top."

The Jaguars with Sunday's victory remained a game ahead of the Houston Texans (12-5) in the AFC South and can clinch the division with a victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Indianapolis Sunday and a Texans loss to the Los Angeles Chargers (11-4) Saturday.

The Jaguars, who can secure the AFC's No. 1 seed with victories in their final two games if New England and Denver both lose one of their final two games, have won six consecutive games – their longest single-season regular-season winning streak since 1999.

"We have always had talented players and I think now we're just starting to put it together," Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange said. "We're starting to figure out what it takes each and every week, and I think we do that through our preparation.

"Coach (Coen) does a great job of preparing us every single week, so I think we have a special group. I always think we have a special group, and I think we're just figuring out how to do it now."

The Jaguars this season have reached 11 regular-season victories for the first time since 2007 and can match the second-most regular-season victories with a victory Sunday. They have scored at least 25 points in a franchise-record eight consecutive games, and their plus-113 point differential during their six-game winning streak is the best in the NFL during that span.

Next Up in the 'Bank

The Jaguars host the Tennessee Titans in Week 18 at EverBank Stadium (date TBD). The team will close out the regular season in their Prowler throwback uniforms.

The Jaguars also are 5-2 on the road with a three-game road winning streak, and Coen and players said it's no coincidence that a team with good chemistry succeeds away from home.

"It's good going in somewhere else and just taking over, so I love that feeling as well but there's no better feeling than playing in front of Duval," Strange said, with Coen adding, "The coaches and players and each other are close."

"This group is definitely a combination of talent, great character, a group of dudes that are trying to prove something every week," Coen said. "That's the fun part about this group. We've won the last X amount of games in a row, and that's fun, but they continuously want to try to get better. That's the most fun part about the group is when we're here, when we're in the building together, they are present and they're being where their feet are. And that's all you can really ask.

"This building appreciates one another. Ultimately when you have everybody going towards the same thing, everybody's got the same goal and vision and understands what the standards are, I think that's when you usually get success."

NOTABLE

  • Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence on Sunday threw touchdown passes to three different receivers – a 3-yarder to Strange, 12-yarder to wide receiver Parker Washington and a 10-yarder to running back Travis Etienne Jr. His five touchdown passes in a victory over the New York Jets the previous Sunday went to three different receivers – a 4-yarder to wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., a 16-yarder to running back Bhayshul Tuten, a 20-yarder to Etienne, a 48-yarder to Etienne and an 8-yarder to Etienne. "We have so many different options and so many different weapons that you have to cover," Strange said. "If you want to focus on one person, then the other person gets an opportunity to eat. So, I think we do a good job of that and we're all super selfless too. We all want each other to succeed, and I think that's what I love the most about this group."
