Tuesday Quick Hits: "We have to stay positive"

2025 TUES QT THUMBNAIL

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars on Tuesday worked and met at the Miller Electric Center.

The Jaguars (4-3), who have lost their last two games after a three-game winning streak, have their bye week this week. A look at Tuesday around the Jaguars – with defensive end Travon Walker and center Robert Hainsey speaking to the media.

There is no panic.

That has been the Jaguars' message this week following a 35-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams Sunday, and Walker on Tuesday agreed with Head Coach Liam Coen saying Monday that now is not the time to "reinvent the wheel."

"Everybody in this building knows what we have to go into this bye week to work on, to fix, and the things that kept us from winning the last two weeks," Walker said. "We have to stay positive, stay together and build on what we've been building since we started OTAs [in the offseason]."

Hainsey said the tone of the week around the Jaguars "is not panicking."

"That's definitely not the feeling because if you look at where we're at – 4-3 going into the bye week, 10 games left and haven't even sniffed our best football," Hainsey said. "We have so much to look forward to and so much improvement to make.

"You're not trying to reinvent the wheel. You're not trying to do anything crazy. It's just where can you find those advantages daily in practice, in the meetings, in the film, that is going to elevate your play as an individual, which in turn elevates the play as a group."

Walker, after registering two sacks in the first three games, has played with a club on his left hand the last two games after missing a Week 5 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. He sustained a wrist injury in a Week 4 victory over San Francisco 49ers, and has one quarterback hit with no tackles for loss after four quarterback hits and two tackles for loss in Weeks 1-3.

"It's a club, so I can't really grab," Walker said. "That's the only thing that it's really limiting me from doing. I'm not complaining. I feel like that one hand does me enough, but I know I could be a lot better with both of my hands. I will say that."

Wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter will be a bye week focus.

Hunter, the No. 2 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, had his best offensive game of the season against the Rams – and continues playing at a high level at corner. Coen on Monday said continuing to determine the best plan for Hunter is "absolutely going to be a part of the conversation with both sides of the football."

Hunter played a season-high 67 offensive snaps Sunday with eight receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown – all season-highs – while playing 14 defensive snaps, his third-lowest of the season.

"There were some definite flashes, on offense specifically – had a great pass breakup as well on defense," Coen said. "We are going to play the best 11 as much as humanly possible after this bye. We've kind of gotten a sample size of everything, the totality of the first seven weeks of every position, but specifically with him.

"There were some really good things the other night, specifically on offense. We have to make sure we're playing the best guys at all times and see what that looks like. That will 100% be a part of this evaluation and conversation over the next few days."

If the Jaguars haven't looked as tough lately, Hainsey said looks can deceive.

The Jaguars through the first five games were running and stopping the run effectively – and with a 4-1 record had established an identity as a "tough team."

Hainsey said that identity remains real despite two losses in the last two weeks.

"If you really watch the film and you watch how we play, we play hard, we play tough, we play physically tough," he said. "What I'm thinking you're seeing is, the last two games, how much obvious pass we've been in and how many times we've thrown the ball. You still have to play physical in the pass game, but from the outside looking in, when you think physicality, you think moving the line of scrimmage, running the ball."

The Jaguars through five games averaged 137 yards per game rushing with a run-pass balance of 28.2-34.4. They are averaging 76.5 yards per game the last two weeks with a run-pass balance of 19-52.

"When you don't get the run game going and you cannot lean on it, it's hard to get the pass game going and vice versa," Hainsey said. "That was something we were excellent at early in the year. We just haven't continued that standard.

"Getting back to that is important because that is our identity."
