2025 Season in Review: Statistically Speaking

SIR STATS

JACKSONVILLE – Senior writer John Oehser examines 10 statistics that shaped the Jaguars' 2025 AFC South Championship season

1. Thirty-eight. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence's turnaround season was defined more by level of play and second-half-of-the-season improvement than statistics, but make no mistake: The statistic that perhaps best defined his improvement was his franchise-record 38 touchdowns – 29 passing and nine rushing. Lawrence in the second half of the season emerged as a Most Valuable Player candidate, throwing 19 touchdowns and rushing for five during the team's eight-game season-ending winning streak while throwing just seven interceptions. Lawrence's 38 touchdowns ranked third in the NFL behind Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (46) and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (38). Lawrence's 4,007 yards passing gave him three 4,000-yard passing seasons in the last four seasons.

2. Thirty-one. The Jaguars improved in multiple areas in 2025 – perhaps nowhere as dramatically or as importantly as defensive takeaways. The Jaguars set the tone here early in the season, forcing at least three turnovers in each of the first four games. They finished the season second in the NFL in takeaways with 31 after forcing a league-low nine turnovers in 2024 – the first NFL team ever to record at least 30 takeaways after having fewer than 10 the previous season. The Jaguars also led the NFL with 110 points off takeaways in 2025, leading the NFL with 107 passes defensed while finishing second in the NFL with 22 interceptions.

3. Eighty-five point six. Takeaways were one statistic that defined an improved Jaguars defense in 2025. Another was the run defense, which led the NFL by allowing 85.6 yards per game in a season in which teams allowed an average of 116.9 yards per game. The Jaguars did not allow an opposing player to rush for more than 75 yards in a game in 2025.

4. Four hundred seventy-four. The Jaguars improved dramatically offensively in Liam Coen's first season as head coach – and that improvement showed through in a remarkably consistent second half of the season. The Jaguars finished sixth in the NFL in points scored with a franchise-record 474, a statistic keyed by a 10-game season-ending stretch in which they scored at least 23 points in every game. The 474 points broke the franchise record of 417 by the 2017 AFC South champions. The Jaguars' 138-point point margin was the fourth highest in the NFL and their 55 touchdowns also were a franchise record. Their 13 games scoring 25 or more points also were the most in franchise history.

5. Sixty-eight. This maybe isn't as much of a statistic as a remarkable feat. Either way, Jaguars kicker Cam Little's remarkable season was perhaps defined by the 68-yard field goal he kicked on the final play of the first half of a 30-29 overtime road victory over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9. Little later set the NFL record for longest outdoor field goal with a 67-yarder in a 41-7 Week 18 victory over the Tennessee Titans at EverBank Stadium. Little converted a franchise-record eight field goals 50 yards or more in 2025.

6. Two. Wide receiver Parker Washington emerged as one of the Jaguars' key players in 2025. One way was as a clutch receiver. Another was as a big-play returner. Washington finished the season with two punt returns for touchdowns – a 73-yarder that gave the Jaguars a 17-point lead in a Week 10 road loss to the Houston Texans and an 87-yarder that keyed one a huge Week 4 road victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

7. Five. This statistic applied to two players on the Jaguars' defense, both of whom had breakout seasons critical to the team's success. Linebacker Devin Lloyd and safety Antonio Johnson tied for the team lead with five interceptions, with both players returning one for memorable touchdowns – a 99-yarder by Lloyd in a Week 5 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs and a 59-yarder by Johnson in a Week 18 victory over the Tennessee Titans.

8. Four or five. Jaguars left tackle Cole Van Lanen emerged as a starter at the position in the second half of the season. He spent the early part of the season as one of the team's most versatile – and important linemen – starting at four offensive line positions and also starting at the team's "extra tackle" when the team started a game in a "big package." He started one game at right guard, one at left guard, two at right tackle and five at left tackle.

9. Sixty-one. Defensive end Josh Hines-Allen led the Jaguars with eight sacks in 2025, breaking the career record for sacks with a sack on Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert in Week 11. He passed former Jaguars defensive end Tony Brackens (55) that day and finished the season with 61 career sacks. Hines-Allen ranked in the Top 10 in the NFL in pressures (80) and quarterback hits (26).

10. Thirteen. This '25 Jaguars statistic trumped all others, with the Jaguars winning 13 games after losing 13 the previous season. Coen became the first rookie head coach in NFL history to win 12-plus games after taking over a team with four or fewer victories the previous season.
