JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars were quiet Thursday. As expected.
That will change in a big, big way Friday as the 2026 NFL Draft moves from Round 1 into what many believe are fertile second and third rounds.
Day 2 now is at hand, and that means opportunity.
"There's a good chance to really level up," Jaguars General Manager James Gladstone said late Thursday at the Miller Electric Center.
The Jaguars on Thursday did not have a first-round selection in the '26 draft, the first time in the franchise's 32 drafts they have not selected in Round 1. They traded the selection to the Cleveland Browns in the deal to move up to No. 2 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft to select wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter.
The Jaguars' first selection in the '26 draft is No. 24 in Round 2, the No 56 selection overall. Gladstone said the Jaguars explored trading up from that selection Thursday.
"We got some calls earlier today just to gauge what paths could exist should they present themselves," Gladstone said. "Nothing came to fruition, obviously. Nothing sort of transpired in real time that would've been worth even flagging."
Gladstone added, "At this stage, we're able to take the night, circle back tomorrow and continue our thoughts around what comes here once we get up onto the clock at 56."
Round 2 is scheduled to begin Friday at 7 p.m., with the Jaguars – who have 11 overall selections in the draft – holding three Round 3 selections: Nos. 81, 88 and 100 overall. Gladstone said Thursday's first round played out pretty close to as expected.
"It reflects what we were projecting," he said. "I think really all the position groups that we felt like had the strength showed itself in the first round and there's still some spots where we feel like the depth is healthy and others where it has been depleted.
"That's not unlike any other draft, but certainly look forward to navigating those waters."
The Jaguars in addition to their four Day 2 selections have seven selections on Day 3: Nos. 124 (Round 4), 164 (Round 5), 166 (Round 5), 203 (Round 6), 233 (Round 7), 240 (Round 7) and 245 (Round 7) overall.
"That gives you a lot more chances to hit, a lot more chances to miss," Gladstone said. "We'll take the chances at this stage knowing that we feel good about our process. We feel good about the collective efforts that have brought forth the guys that we feel really good about entering into our environment and knowing that they're rooted in the stuff that's only going point to them thriving in it."
