Mock draft tracker 14.0: The favorite remains the favorite

Mock Draft 14.0 Thumb

JACKSONVILLE, FLA – The favorite's role remains unchanged.

But while Aidan Hutchinson remains the most popular choice for the No. 1 overall selection by the Jaguars in the 2022 NFL Draft, that's hardly a unanimous feeling these days.

Hutchinson, an edge defender from the University of Michigan, was projected to the Jaguars No. 1 by 14 of 22 analysts in this week's jaguars.com mock draft tracker 14.0. The 2022 NFL Draft will be held April 28-30, with analysts also projecting four other players to the Jaguars No. 1.

"I understand the hype surrounding Travon Walker, but Aidan Hutchinson is still the best EDGE — from Day 1 — in the class. His ceiling may be lower, but Jacksonville needs a steady playmaker, not a boom-or-bust prospect," James Fragoza of Pro Football Network wrote.

"It's not quite as obvious this year as it was last year, but the No. 1 pick sure seems like it's going to be the star edge rusher from Michigan," Jared Dubin of CBS wrote.

Sam Monson of Pro Football Network also wrote of a Hutchinson-Walker decision.

"There is an ever-increasing buzz around Travon Walker as the No. 1 overall pick, but I just can't see a good justification to put him above Hutchinson," Monson wrote, with Rhett Lewis of the NFL Network writing of Hutchinson: "This is a player who's going to provide the Jags with an immediate impact on the field while simultaneously boosting the club's culture."

Four analysts in this week's tracker projected Walker No. 1 overall.

"In a draft without a clear-cut top dog, this Dawg offers outstanding measurables and explosiveness, with high-end upside to cultivate," Lance Zierlein of NFL Media wrote.

Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports wrote that "Walker going No. 1 is not out of the question. At all."

"Check his combined performance. Big-time athletes go early in the draft. Very early," Trapasso wrote, with Nate Davis of USA Today writing of Walker: "His ability to defend the run would be especially alluring in a division featuring Titans RB Derrick Henry and Colts RB Jonathan Taylor."

Two analysts projected Alabama offensive tackle Evan Neal to the Jaguars No. 1 overall, with one projecting Oregon edge defender Kayvon Thibodeaux there and another projecting North Carolina State offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu as the election.

"Further protecting Jaguars quarterback] Trevor Lawrence with an elite offensive tackle prospect is enticing, but so is grabbing the best edge rusher in this class,” Kyle Stackpole of Stackpole [wrote, with Joe Broback of Pro Football Network writing: "It's hard for the Jaguars to justify a pick that doesn't include someone protecting Trevor Lawrence, so it comes down to whether they take Evan Neal or NC State's Ikem Ekwonu."
