Mock draft tracker 8.0: Consensus no more

Mock Draft 8.0 Thumb

JACKSONVILLE – This "consensus thing" is becoming less of a thing.

With the 2022 Scouting Combine in the rearview, the consensus among draft analysts remains that the Jaguars likely will select an offensive lineman No. 1 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.

But the player projected at No. 1 isn't a consensus anymore.

After weeks with Alabama offensive tackle Evan Neal often a near-unanimous selection at No. 1 in the jaguars.com mock drafter, this week's eighth version of the tracker is very much split between Neal and another offensive tackle.

That player: Ikem Ekwonu of North Carolina State.

"This year's draft class is wide open at the top, and momentum is building for Ekwonu to take the No. 1 spot," USA Today Draft Wire's Luke Easterling wrote. "The Jaguars obviously need to protect their investment in [quarterback] Trevor Lawrence, and Ekwonu was an all-conference player at both guard at tackle for the Wolfpack."

Pro Football Network's Dalton Miller agreed.

"Ikem Ekwonu is the most terrifying force in the 2022 NFL Draft," Miller wrote. "The way he moves people with his athleticism, hand placement, and grip strength will bode well for protecting Trevor Lawrence's blindside."

Wrote Ryan Wilson of CBS: "Ekwonu was our OT1 coming into the combine and nothing's changed. His workout in Indy matched what he showed on the field during the college football season."

Six of nine analysts in this week's mock-draft tracker projected Ekwonu to the Jaguars No. 1 overall, with three projecting Neal.

"With [tackle] Cam Robinson set to hit free agency, the Jaguars could pair Neal with 2021 second-rounder Walker Little to man the edges for years to come," NFL Media and Jaguars Media analyst Bucky Brooks wrote.

Here's the eighth jaguars.com 2022 mock draft tracker:
