JACKSONVILLE – The difference is all the difference.
Trevor Lawrence is in a good place these days. A really good place. He's entering his sixth NFL season, his sixth as the Jaguars' starting quarterback – and he not only had his best NFL season last season, he still feels he's improving.
That's good stuff for now and the future.
"I feel like I can play so much faster," he said.
Lawrence early this week joined senior writer John Oehser for the final 2026 offseason O-Zone Podcast – and as the Jaguars' '26 offseason program drew to a close, he discussed multiple topics. Among them: His comfort level entering his second season in Head Coach Liam Coen's offense.
"Just having the system down, there's so much more confidence when you step on the field that we know what we're doing," he said. "It (Coen's offense) is just a lot more stressful mentally. I had to get used to that.
"Now, I feel so much more comfortable and the stress level is so much lower. The attention to detail is super high, though. It's not like I'm relaxing out there, but as far as the confidence and knowing what I'm doing … now I'm paying attention to exactly how the defense is responding.
"It's really cool."
Lawrence also discussed what the Jaguars accomplished in the offseason program that ended Wednesday, calling the past two months "awesome."
"Just really impressed with the whole team, how guys have come out ready to work," he said. "That's not surprising, but it's always something that you want to accomplish. It's a short time, but it's a big part of the year where you can gain an edge over your opponents.
"Everyone's doing it. But what's the quality of which of the reps that you're getting? And I think ours were really high. It was very intentional. Guys were playing at a high level offensively."
Lawrence, who finished a career-high fifth in the 2025 Most Valuable Player balloting, called the progress made from last spring to now "astronomical."
"What we're getting to in our system, the timing, guys being on the same page of protection, the communication up front … all that stuff is so much further along because we're a year in the system," he said. "I was very happy with the work we got done."
Lawrence also discussed what was perhaps the story of the Jaguars' offseason – the improved connection, particularly in the deep passing offense, between he and wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.
"Last year at times we just weren't on the same page for whatever reason," he said. "We have taken a huge step in that area. He's so fast, running by guys all the time. A lot of it was, looking at myself and saying, 'OK, where can I improve and get better? How can I get him the ball more accurately on time down the field, give him opportunities to go run under the ball and make plays?'
"He's such a talented player. We just have to find those opportunities more. We talked about it a lot -- BT, Liam, all of us. It's starting to pay off and it's just the beginning."
