JACKSONVILLE – Jaguars 2026 Training Camp continued Friday.

It was the eighth day of the second training camp under Head Coach Liam Coen, featuring a mock game in a two-hour, thirty-minute practice in full pads at the Miller Electric Center. Each day throughout camp, members of Jaguars Media – senior writer John Oehser, senior correspondent Brian Sexton, team reporter Kainani Stevens and correspondent John Shipley – will share an observation.

Oehser…

• Friday's mock game leaned more toward practice than game, but for the standing-room-only crowd at the MEC, it was a chance to see multiple camp-long storylines remain strong. Foremost among them: The increasingly reliable – and increasingly impressive and important – connection between quarterback Trevor Lawrence and wide receiver Parker Washington. The tandem connected for multiple key gains and a touchdown Friday – and as has been the case throughout '26 camp, Washington continued to feel like the go-to receiver and the player Lawrence trusts most in the most key situations. Wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. registered one of the day's highlight plays, catching one of Lawrence's three touchdown passes with running back LeQuint Allen Jr. and Washington catching his others. Notable, too: Anton Harrison continued working at left tackle, a position that increasingly feels like it could be Harrison's this season after the former first-round selection spent his first three NFL seasons at right tackle. Standing out defensively once again Friday: Second-year edge B.J. Green II, who pressured quarterbacks consistently and who may be moving toward being a key part of the rotation when end Travon Walker kicks inside in passing situations this season. Rookie edge Zach Durfee also stood out.

• The more I watch Washington practice, the more I'm impressed. The Jaguars in the past calendar year have signed wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, tackle Cole Van Lanen, defensive end Travon Walker, cornerback Montaric Brown and tight end Brenton Strange to lucrative contract extensions. It also appears Harrison is the left tackle of the present and future. So where is the money going to come from to sign Washington? I no longer care. He's the best receiver on the field, and you can't convince me that he isn't Lawrence's preferred option. There are some bright minds and creative accounting folks in the MEC. If I were Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen, I would be walking by their offices every day until Washington is paid.

• The Jaguars simulated some realistic game scenarios with a scrimmage on Friday morning, with starters on both sides working against the second and third teams to get repetitions in a game setting. Standouts on offense were Washington and Thomas. I saw some miscommunications between Lawrence and his receivers, but I still saw impressive catches from Thomas and Washington. Defensively, tackle Arik Armstead was a nuisance and Durfee found himself near the quarterback a few times. I didn't see as much tight end involvement as I expected, but rookie Tanner Koziol came down with a good grab early in the scrimmage. Some more injury concerns with the offensive line as Emmanuel Pregnon and Patrick Mekaridid not practice and Walker Little left after the first drive.

Shipley …

• The Jaguars scrimmaged for 90 minutes on Friday, and the day's overall theme was that the defense is in a good place. The No. 1 defense worked against the No. 2 offense, so some type of high-level performance was expected. The defensive line consistently swarmed backup quarterback Nick Mullens so consistently that it was hard to get a feel for anything else after the snap. Green recorded multiple sacks Friday, with Walker, Durfee and Dennis Gardeck also registering sacks. A leaping interception from Brown off Mullens was the highlight of the day, making this a strong performance from coordinator Anthony Campanile's unit. The Jaguars will have a walkthrough on Saturday before practicing in pads Sunday. They are off Monday, followed by preparation for joint practices with the New Orleans Saints.
