JACKSONVILLE – Jaguars 2025 Training Camp began Wednesday.
It was the first day of the first training camp under Head Coach Liam Coen, featuring a 90-minute practice with shorts and shells at the Miller Electric Center. Each day throughout camp, members of Jaguars Media – senior writer John Oehser, senior reporter/editor J.P. Shadrick and team reporter Kainani Stevens – will share an observation.

- Make no mistake: Day 1 of Jaguars '25 training camp may have been short – and it may not have been in pads – but this didn't feel like a "light, ramp-up" practice. The Jaguars' short practice Wednesday featured two periods of 11-on-11 work and two periods of seven-on-seven work – and while there wasn't the high contact you will see in future weeks, there was an intensity in the first camp practice under Head Coach Liam Coen. The Jaguars focused on perhaps a bit more than usual on the running game for a Day 1 practice, with back Tank Bigsby, LeQuint Allen and Bhayshul Tuten all turning in nice runs. Also notable: The chemistry and timing between quarterback Trevor Lawrence and receivers such as Brian Thomas Jr., Travis Hunter and Dyami Brown. Lawrence and the receivers worked out together extensively between the end of the offseason program and the start of training camp in locales from the Bahamas to the Episcopal School of Jacksonville – and those repetitions appeared to yield results in cohesion and timing Monday. Of note on this front: A comeback route by Thomas on a pass from Lawrence that Thomas turned into a long gain and possible touchdown. Yes, it was non-padded with a lot of first-day stuff. But this was an energetic, efficient way to open.

- The Jaguars worked out for just about an hour to kick off '25 camp. This was the start of the ramp-up period, agreed upon by the NFL Players Association and the NFL, slowly working players into shape over the first few practices before putting pads on for the first time early next week. That said, there isn't much to see on the offensive and defensive lines yet since they cannot hit each other. But it's a different story for skill players. Coen said that every moment of Hunter's training camp is accounted for, and that showed in the first practice. Hunter worked at wide receiver, then during special teams periods he worked with defensive coaches one-on-one in light defensive back drills, getting looks from assistant coaches at a walkthrough pace. This will be a fun watch day-to-day to see how his on-field work changes.

- Professional football back in action in Jacksonville with the first day of training camp complete. There is always a "first-day-of-school" vibe to training camp and it was prevalent with first-time head coach Coen leading the charge. Coen said he took a little bit from each past training camp he has been a part of when building the program here. There were noticeably more team periods compared to the last regime, and in that way it felt more fluid. Backup quarterback Nick Mullens showed a strong command of the offensive system and connected on two long passes to wide receiver Joshua Cephus. Lawrence was up and down on Day 1, but overall looked comfortable and in command. Lawrence remarked after practice he feels healthier than he has in years and is looking forward to continued progression throughout camp.
