JACKSONVILLE – His focus is on the now, and on the positives.
And make no mistake: As cornerback Tyson Campbell sees it, there are many positives about his situation and the Jaguars' defense as 2025 Training Camp continues at the Miller Electric Center.
This is a good time for Campbell and his teammates.
"I'm loving it," he said.
Campbell spoke following a two-and-half hour practice Sunday morning and spoke shortly after defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile spoke. As the two exchanged places, Campanile hugged Campbell and called him, "My guy."
Campanile moments earlier praised Campbell, calling him "A really competitive guy at the point of attack."
"There's a guy who's had success in his league, and he loves to be coached," Campanile said. "He's never really sitting still. If he has downtime, he's doing drill work. He tries to compete against our best players every day, challenges himself, always asking questions, and is certainly demanding of himself. Critical in the most positive way, watching his technique every day and trying to get better.
"Those are the guys you love coaching. You're fortunate to have a guy like that I'm fortunate to have a guy like that."
Campanile, too, said Campbell – a second-round selection by the Jaguars in the 2021 NFL Draft– very much fits the Jaguars' versatile, zone-based defense.
"I love what he does because he could play with vision on the ball," he said. "He can get up there and challenge and play press. He's physical. All facets of his game definitely apply to what we do."
Campbell called Campanile "a heck of a coach" and the "type of coach you would run through a wall for."
"He brings that energy every day," Campbell said. "It's consistent. That's how you know it's genuine. He hasn't changed one bit. Very intentional and believes in each and every one of his players.

"You can't ask for a better coach like that – that trusts you and believes in you and wants to get the best out of you."
Campbell, who signed a contract extension before the 2024 season, has one interception over the last two seasons after intercepting five passes in his first two seasons. He has missed 11 games the past two seasons after missing just three in 2021, saying Sunday he is "grateful for the experience of the last two seasons."
"It's allowed me to be mentally tough," he said. "It's allowed me to be present and learn to be where my feet are and realize what God is trying to teach me in each and every moment. I know the trouble doesn't last always, so when I do get through the storm, I'm mentally mature and mentally strong to go through anything.
"I'm grateful for it. It's behind me. I'm being present and I'm excited for this year."
Campbell said he is entering the '25 season a bit heavier at 205 pounds having added good muscle weight. He likes how he fits in – and how he is playing thus far – in Campanile's scheme, which he said is "built for "everybody's strengths."
"I like everything about it," he said. "I'm just trying to stack days, compete, get my hands on the ball and make sure my alignment, my assignments and my keys are on point each and every day.
"Each day is its own. So, you have a good day the day prior, it doesn't mean you're going to have a great day today. You've got to be intentional, take it one day at a time, have short-term memory because each day is its own."

QUOTABLE
- Campanile on rookie wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter: "Everything I've watched him do to this point has been really impressive. I think really the sky's the limit when it comes to him, what he's able to do."
NOTABLE
- The Jaguars on Saturday signed free-agent cornerback Levi Wallace, an eight-year NFL veteran who played with the Buffalo Bills from 2018-2021 before playing with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022-2023 and the Denver Broncos last season. Wallace has 12 interceptions in seven NFL seasons. "He's another veteran guy who's had success in his career," Campanile said. "I think whenever you can have that or add that to your roster, it's important and obviously helpful. He has a wealth of knowledge playing in a bunch of systems, and he's just a good high character guy. He's a good football player. So that's what we like about him."
