Jaguars Focus on Internal Growth in Week 7 London Game: "All About Us"

WEEK 7 WED INSIDER

WATFORD, United Kingdom – The Jaguars on Wednesday practiced at The Grove.

The Jaguars (4-2) will play the Los Angeles Rams (4-2) at Wembley Stadium in London Sunday in a 2025 Week 7 game. A look at Wednesday around the Jaguars – with Head Coach Liam Coen speaking to the media before practice and quarterback Trevor Lawrence and wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter among players speaking following practice:

  • *The top priority is very clear, very important and very fixable.

The Jaguars made too many mistakes through six games this season, particularly avoidable ones, and Coen on Wednesday reiterated the need to resolve the issue.

"All of this week is about us," he said.

The Jaguars in a 20-12 loss to the Seattle Seahawks this past Sunday committed 10 penalties for 76 yards. Coen earlier this week called the Jaguars an "undisciplined operation," citing himself as being responsible.

"It's about our preparation, our operation," he said. "Let's get better at the controllables and see how mentally tough we are."

Coen said Jaguars coaches typically use Wednesdays to emphasize "game-wreckers" – i.e., opposing players capable of "wrecking the game" and worthy of extra attention.

"We know who their good players are and have a lot of respect for them," said Coen, adding with a laugh, "but the message this morning was we've been our game wreckers in a lot of ways. We played some really good opponents and we have a lot of respect for those opponents but until we look at ourselves and fix our mistakes, it doesn't matter who we're playing.

"That has been the message. That was the message this morning in the team meeting. How much can we stay mentally locked in and focused and disciplined and detailed throughout the course of this day after travel, after jet lag, after whatever it is. No excuses, let's go to work and prepare the best week we've had from a preparation standpoint and go play to not try to do too much."

Coen added that "trying too much" may have been a factor Sunday.

"It's one of those tight ball games," Coen said. "You're back and forth, you're struggling to maybe make some things happen and guys maybe try to go outside of [their normal responsibility]. Some of that stuff starts to happen. It's natural. But we need to let the game also come to us that way and not try to press and do too much."

  • *The Jaguars' offensive linemen understand the objective. They understand, too, the objective's urgency.

"They're very eager for the challenge to step up," Coen said.

The Jaguars, after allowing five sacks in the first six games, allowed seven to the Seahawks. The Rams are tied for fourth in the NFL with 19 sacks.

Linebacker Byron Young leads the Rams with 7.5 sacks for 49 yards, with linebacker Jared Verse registering three for 22 yards.

"Each week you face an opportunity in this league up front to see some of the best pass rushers – whether it's individuals, whether it's accruable, whether it's scheme," Coen said. "We've seen some good stuff and we have protected at a high level in a lot of ways. Last week was a tough go.

"We all know it takes truly not just those guys up front. We have to help them and have a responsibility as coaches, but also, 'Hey stepping up to the plate and worrying about us. Let's go get better at our sets, the way that we slide in pass protection, the way that we protect our fundamentals, our techniques, and worry about those things and not so much the guys that we're playing against.'"

  • *Coen on Wednesday also praised rookie Rayuan Lane III, calling the sixth-round selection a "darn good player." Lane leads the Jaguars with eight special teams tackles five solos.

"Ray has some swagger, man," Coen said. "He plays the game very violently. He's obviously a tough kid and he takes a lot of pride in what he does. He knows he's a darn good player. He has confidence right now.

"The players in that room, that unit, also believe in him at a high level. Who knows what his ceiling is in terms of what he can be in terms of a special teams player in this league? He takes it personal when he's getting double teamed. When he is getting one-on-one opportunities down the field, he's taking advantage of them."

  • *The Jaguars on Wednesday issued the first of their three injury reports for the week, with center Robert Hainsey practicing limited. Hainsey missed the loss to the Seahawks with a hamstring injury sustained in a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs the previous Monday.

Defensive end Travon Walker practiced full with a wrist injury Wednesday. He played with the injury against the Seahawks, having missed the victory over the Chiefs seven days after undergoing surgery on the wrist.

Also:

  • Linebacker Devin Lloyd (calf)
  • Tight end Quintin Morris (groin) were listed as not practicing Wednesday.
  • Both players were ruled out for Sunday when they didn't accompany the Jaguars to London Monday.
