JACKSONVILLE – This was the right player with the right team at the right time.
Jakobi Meyers knew it, and the Jaguars knew it – and because both sides knew it quickly, the veteran wide receiver is staying with the organization moving forward.
"I'm just grateful just to be here, honestly," Meyers said.
Meyers, acquired by the Jaguars in early November in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders for a fourth- and sixth-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, signed a 3-year, $60 million extension Friday morning. He was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent following the season.
"You could tell [from the time Meyers arrived] it was going to be a good fit and it has continued to be," Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen said.
Meyers, 29, a 7-year NFL veteran, leads the Jaguars with 27 receptions for 355 yards and 3 touchdowns in 6 games since the trade. The Jaguars are 5-1 during that span.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to be here longer and keep making plays with the guys," he said.
Meyers called negotiations for the extension "a bang-bang process," and that he knew "pretty early" he wanted to re-sign with the organization.
"It went quick," he said. "Everybody said it was smooth. I could tell early on when I stepped in, the chemistry in the locker room, the way the coaches coach, the way everybody comes together for a common goal … it's something I want to be a part of.
"And the city's nice. The fans have been dope. Getting around to the beaches, getting around to the different neighborhoods, has been cool."

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence has had his best 3-game stretch of the season in recent weeks with 9 passing touchdowns, no interceptions and passer ratings of more than 100 in all 3 games.
"He knows what he's looking for and he knows exactly what the playbook wants him to do, and what he expects from receivers," Meyers said of Lawrence. "That's easy for me. Just tell me what you want and I can adjust to you. I just try to get to the right spot and make his job easy."
Coen on Friday discussed what he called an "obvious connection" between Lawrence and Meyers.
"Early on you could feel that there was chemistry there," Coen said. "Anytime you can get guys like that where you have a continued a chemistry … it gets better each week and really happy for the guy."
Coen on Friday called Meyers "a guy that's prepared like a true pro since he's got here," saying conversations about an extension "started pretty naturally."
"We were able to get to a nice agreement," Coen said. "We always want to pay the person, not the player in a lot of ways. Really, the most important thing is his teammates really like him. The offensive line loves him and that's usually where you can kind of check the moral compass of the person."
Meyers, who has 453 career receptions for 5,299 yards and 23 touchdowns, said he received word from his agent that an agreement was close while driving home from the Miller Electric Center. He called the final decision an easy one.
"It really was a no-brainer for me," he said. "I've really been enjoying my time here. This is what I've been fighting for my whole life. It feels good just to know my family's straight. That was the biggest peace of mind.
"I'm truly blessed and excited. Thank God for this opportunity."
