JACKSONVILLE – In a weekly feature for the 2025 season, NFL Media and Jaguars Media Analyst Bucky Brooks breaks down the Jaguars' performance in a 48-20 Week 15 victory over the New York at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville

BIG IMPRESSION

  • The Jaguars dominated the Jets from start to finish in one of their most complete performances of the season. From an impressive 9-play, 72-yard scoring drive to start the game to safety Antonio Johnson's game-clinching interception, the Jaguars methodically dismantled their overmatched opponent with the flawless execution of a well-constructed game plan. Although the coaching staff will undoubtedly want to eliminate the unsportsmanlike penalties (taunting and unnecessary roughness), the overall performance showed the Jaguars' growth as an emerging contender in the AFC.

KEYS TO VICTORY

  • The Jaguars played outstanding complementary football against the Jets, with the offense, defense and special teams units dominating their respective matchups. The offense rolled up 438 yards, with quarterback Trevor Lawrence leading the way with 300-plus pass yards and 5 touchdowns. Running back Travis Etienne Jr. added 3 touchdowns, showcasing his versatility as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. Defensively, the unit came up with 3 takeaways due to the well-orchestrated pressure and coverage packages. With 3 sacks, 7 tackles for loss and 3 turnovers, the Jaguars took advantage of the limitations of an offense directed by a rookie quarterback.

TREVOR'S TIME

  • The former No.1 overall pick arguably played the best game of his career against the Jets. While the stat line is eye-popping with 330 passing yards and 6 total touchdowns (5 passing and 1 rushing), it was the confidence and clutch playmaking ability that he displayed in the effort that suggests Lawrence is playing his best ball heading down the stretch. He completed 20 of 32 passes, with 8 different pass catchers registering catches on the day. Most importantly, he found a connection with wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington and Brian Thomas Jr., tight end Brenton Strange and Etienne that made it hard for the Jets to clamp down on a designated playmaker.

UNSUNG HERO

  • It is hard to tout Etienne as an unsung hero when he is such a critical piece to the Jaguars' offensive puzzle, but the veteran deserves a game ball for a 3-touchdown effort that showcased his versatility as a playmaker out of the backfield. As a dynamic weapon who can produce explosive plays in various ways, the defense must account for No. 1's whereabouts on every play or watch the veteran take over the game as a runner and pass catcher.

OFFENSIVELY SPEAKING

  • Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen put on a dazzling display of play-calling wizardry against the Jets. Coen tore apart the Jets' defense with clever shifts, motions and tactics that exploited the scheme. The clever deception and misdirection created big-play chances over the middle of the field between the 20s, while producing touchdowns on the outside in the red zone. With the offensive line providing excellent protection and Lawrence dialed in as a passer, the combination of play design and high-level execution allowed the Jaguars to light up the scoreboard against an overmatched opponent.

DEFENSIVELY SPEAKING

  • The Jaguars have re-emerged as takeaway bandits, routinely producing 3 turnovers per week. The front continues to throttle the running game, forcing quarterbacks to pass in long-yardage scenarios that play into the hands of a defense that excels in "vision-and-break" coverage. With a rookie quarterback lacking the confidence and experience to move the defense with his eyes effectively, the Jaguars against the Jets were able to jump routes and swipe passes on errant tosses thrown into tight windows. As the Jaguars build momentum heading down the stretch, the effective combination of rush and coverage could help the takeaway bandits continue to make their mark.
