Scout's Take: NFL Media and Jaguars Media Analyst Bucky Brooks Examines Chargers-Jaguars, Week 12

JACKSONVILLE – In a weekly feature for the 2025 season, NFL Media and Jaguars Media Analyst Bucky Brooks breaks down the Jaguars' performance in a 27-24 overtime victory over the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

BIG IMPRESSION

  • The Jaguars claimed a hard-fought road win that showcased the team's competitive attitude and resilience. Despite playing with a minus-4 turnover margin, the Jaguars made enough plays to overcome the odds against a squad playing with nothing to lose. The critics will point to quarterback Trevor Lawrence's questionable decisions and inaccurate throws, but the Jaguars' players and coaches will view the performance as a masterpiece that revealed the character of a team that looks like a playoff contender.

KEYS TO VICTORY

  • The Jaguars' grit and determination helped them withstand a series of blunders that put them on the brink of disaster. From back-breaking turnovers to failed fourth-down conversions to ill-timed penalties, the Jaguars overcame a laundry list of "DBO" (Don't Beat Ourselves) miscues that routinely lead to losses. With running back Travis Etienne Jr., wide receiver Parker Washington and wide receiver Jakobi Myers making big plays on the perimeter, and Lawrence fearlessly slinging the rock, the Jaguars made enough plays to set up defensive end Josh Hines-Allen and safety Andrew Wingard for close-out opportunities in overtime.

TREVOR'S TIME

  • Credit Lawrence for refusing to wilt under the internal and external pressure created by his turnover spree. Lawrence made a handful of "wow" throws after his blunders that showcased his talent and toughness (mental) as a premier player. Although the performance was far from perfect, the fifth-year veteran might have discovered his superpowers as a playmaker in a topsy-turvy game that tested his confidence and courage. After being encouraged to "let it rip," the Jaguars' QB1 is testing his limits while attempting to grow into a game-changer at the position.

UNSUNG HERO

  • Linebacker Dennis Gardeck enjoyed his return to the desert with a spectacular performance that helped the Jaguars earn a tough road win. The veteran finished with six tackles, 1.5 sacks, and four quarterback hits, playing with relentless effort and energy from the edge. His underrated contributions helped the Jaguars disrupt Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett's rhythm in pivotal moments.

OFFENSIVELY SPEAKING

  • The Jaguars found a way to get it done offensively when it mattered most. Lawrence and Co. created a handful of splash plays to flip the field and set up scoring chances. Although Lawrence's turnovers halted some of the unit's momentum, the offense came through in the clutch with Meyers, Washington and Etienne making key plays throughout the game to extend drives or put points on the board. While the offense needs to improve on fourth-and-end-the-game situations, the overall performance from the unit deserves a thumbs-up after film review.

DEFENSIVELY SPEAKING

  • Defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile made a few adjustments that enabled the defense to contain a red-hot quarterback in the second half. The first-time defensive play-caller dialed up more pressures and changed the coverage to keep Brissett guessing. Additionally, he crafted some blitz-pressure "winners" that forced the veteran quarterback into sacks or hurried throws in pivotal moments. Given his brilliant half-time adjustments, Campanile should have received a game ball for his efforts on Sunday.
