Game Report, 2025 Week 11: Jaguars 35, Chargers 6

GAME REPORT

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars spent the week quiet and motivated.

They spent Sunday afternoon turning in one of their most impressive victories in memory – and again showing they are postseason contenders.

Travis Etienne Jr. rushed for two touchdowns, the defense dominated and the Jaguars put a difficult loss – and a difficult week – in the rear view with a physical, convincing, 35-6 victory over the playoff-contending Los Angeles Chargers in front of 58,461 at EverBank Stadium Sunday.

"The guys just executed and played their tails off," Head Coach Liam Coen said, with quarterback Trevor Lawrence calling Sunday "a great day for us."

"It was fun," Lawrence said.

Sunday's fun followed what Coen and players called a quiet week, with the Jaguars losing a 19-point fourth-quarter lead in a loss to the Houston Texans last Sunday.

"We play better pissed off," Coen said. "We've talked about edge for a long time now. When we have an edge and we play as a team and it's about the team all the time, good things happen typically for us.

"I am proud of the response, for sure."

Coen said there was a focus in Saturday night's team meeting, adding that he felt before the game that "these guys were going to come out pissed off today."

"We just had to get the bad taste out of our mouth," said rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten, who rushed for a career-high 74 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. "We harped on it all week. Throughout the week, practice was quiet. A lot of people were locked in. A lot of people know what this game was for us.

"We had to get our mojo back and I feel like we definitely did today."

The Jaguars (6-4) won for a second time in three games and snapped a three-game winning streak for the Chargers (7-4).

"It was a hard week," Coen said. "When you have that taste in your mouth, and it has to live there all week, you can only get so much of that taste out of your mouth in practice.

"Last night we just said, 'Guys, let's keep this real simple. Let's just go out and cut it loose for four quarters as a team and see what happens.' I had a good feeling about the way we would respond, but you never really know until you get into it."

Lawrence ran for a third-quarter touchdown and threw a fourth-quarter touchdown to wide receiver Tim Patrick as the Jaguars pulled away with a methodical second half. Etienne rushed for touchdowns in the second and fourth quarter as the Jaguars out rushed the Chargers, 192-42.

"Coach put a little pep in our step, and that transferred over the field," said Etienne, who rushed for 73 yards on 18 carries. "We have to come out like that each and every week, every Sunday."

The Jaguars outgained the Chargers 345-135 with 30 first downs to eight for the Chargers. The Jaguars finished the game with a 37:55-22:05 time-of-possession advantage.

The Jaguars' defense dominated throughout – holding the Chargers without a touchdown, sacking Chargers quarterbacks three times and intercepting them once.

"We were hunting up front," Coen said of the defense.

Lawrence completed 14 of 22 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown with one interception. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert completed 10 of 18 passes for 81 yards and no touchdowns with an interception, leaving the game in the fourth quarter.

The Jaguars' sacks: .5 by ends Danny Striggow and Travon Walker and one each by end Josh Hines-Allen and tackle Arik Armstead. Safety Antonio Johnson intercepted Herbert in the fourth quarter and returned it 30 yards to the Chargers 13, setting up a 13-yard touchdown run by Etienne that gave the Jaguars a 35-6 lead. The Jaguars, after entering Sunday second in the NFL in takeaways, now have 19 for the season.

Hines-Allen's second-quarter sack gave him three for the season and 56 for his career, moving him into first place for most career sacks in franchise history.

"It's cool to be a part of it," Hines-Allen said. "Just keep sacking."

2025 Week 11, Step by step:

  • Kicker Cameron Dicker's 41-yard field goal capped a nine-play, 35-yard drive and gave the Chargers a 3-0 lead with 3:31 remaining in the first quarter. The Jaguars drove to the Chargers 41 on the previous drive – their first of the game – with Lawrence overthrowing wide receiver Jakobi Meyers on fourth-and-3 from there. Tuten's four-yard touchdown run on the final play of the first quarter capped a six-play 74-yard drive and gave the Jaguars a 7-3 lead.
  • Dicker's 46-yard field goal capped a nine-play, 14-yard drive and cut the Jaguars' lead to 7-6 with 8:15 remaining in the second quarter; the drive began when cornerback Donte Jackson intercepted Lawrence at the Jaguars 42. The Jaguars drove for an eight-point lead on the ensuing possession, continuing to run strong and taking a 14-6 lead when Etienne capped a nine-play, 60-yard drive with a 2-yard run from Wildcat formation with 3:37 remaining in the second quarter.
  • The Jaguars opened the second half strong, driving 65 yards in 11 plays and taking a 21-6 lead with Lawrence scored on a 1-yard run with 7:50 remaining in the third quarter.
  • Lawrence's 1-yard touchdown pass to Patrick capped a 16-play, 76-yard drive and gave the Jaguars a 28-6 lead. Etienne's second touchdown run came 36 seconds later on the ensuing series and pushed the lead to 35-6 with 11:02 remaining.

Notable: Second-year wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. missed a second consecutive game with an ankle injury, with five other Jaguars players also inactive Sunday: Starting right tackle Anton Harrison (knee/ankle/leg), tight end Hunter Long (hip/knee), running back Cody Schrader, defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah and starting cornerback Jourdan Lewis (neck). Harrison sustained his injury last Sunday, with Long and Lewis – like Thomas – missing that day's loss to the Houston Texans. The Jaguars ruled Harrison, Lewis and Long out on Friday with Thomas listed as questionable on that day's final injury report of the week.

Jaguars injury report: Cornerback Greg Newsome II sustained an ankle injury in the first quarter and did not return. Defensive end Travon Walker sustained a knee injury in the second quarter and returned. Tuten sustained an ankle injury in the second half and did not return.
