Who are the Jacksonville Jaguars?
The Jacksonville Jaguars are a professional American Football team based in North East Florida in the city of Jacksonville and our home ground is EverBank Field. It is one of the newest of the 32 teams that play in the National Football League (NFL), playing our first season in 1995.
The NFL is divided into 2 conferences; American Football Conference (AFC) and National Football Conference (NFC). Within each conference there are 4 divisions; North, East, South and West. The Jaguars are members of the American Football Conference (AFC) South Division along with the Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans.
Why should you support the Jaguars?
The Jaguars are Proud, Bold and Committed to London and the UK is their second home.
What should I know about the Jaguars?
Shahid Khan - owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars since December 2011 – known as Shad – has captured the imagination and respect of the business and sports world in the United States and beyond. Khan arrived in the U.S. from Pakistan at age 16 to study engineering at the University of Illinois. He would land his first job at nearby auto supplier Flex-N-Gate, and after opening a competing business several years later would return to buy Flex-N-Gate and develop the company into a global leader with more than 52 plants and 16,000 employees around the world.
When first introduced as the Jaguars owner, Shad expressed a desire to extend the Jaguars and NFL brands in the UK and beyond, and in August 2012 made good on his word by joining NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell as well as Jacksonville officials and community leaders to announce that the Jacksonville Jaguars would play one home game in Wembley Stadium for four consecutive seasons. In July 2013 Shad also purchased Fulham Football Club in South-West London.
Executive VP of Football Operations:
Tom Coughlin – a legendary figure in Jacksonville as their first ever head coach from 1995-2002 and a future Hall of Fame head coach after winning two Super Bowls with the New York Giants.
In eight seasons with the Jaguars, Coughlin led them to four consecutive play-off appearances and two AFC Championship games, the most successful period in our history.
After moving to New York in 2004, Coughlin cemented his place in NFL history by leading the Giants to a 17-14 win over New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII in his fourth season with the team.
And Coughlin became one of only 13 coaches to win two or more Super Bowls with another ring in 2011’s showpiece, again against the Patriots (Bill Belichick’s only two defeats in six Super Bowl appearances…).
Since leaving New York in 2015 Coughlin was hired as a senior advisor to the NFL before returning home in 2017 as Executive VP of Football Operations at EverBank Field.
Doug Marrone - Our head coach might know London better than any other coach in the NFL having played offensive line for the London Monarch’s in 1991 and he admits he is ‘fired up’ to be leading the Jags into his adopted city.
“I have so many fond memories of that city from my time living there – I’ve always said London is my favourite city in the world,” said Marrone in his first UK interview since being promoted to head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Marrone spent the two seasons before his hiring as offensive line coach for the Jaguars and oversaw a unit which reduced its sack count drop from 71 to 34 under his watch. Marrone went 1-1 including a 38-17 mauling of divisional rivals Tennessee Titans during his two games as interim head coach.
Marrone’s previous experience includes leading Syracuse University to their first bowl win in a decade and two seasons as head coach of the Buffalo Bills. In two years with the Bills, Marrone led them to their first winning season in ten years.
And he’s ready to do it again in Jacksonville – ‘we are in a results business and we want to win’.
THE ROAR of the Jaguars are the professional Jacksonville Jaguars cheerleaders who perform choreographed high-energy routines at home games.
When not on the playing field, members of THE ROAR serve as goodwill ambassadors for the Jaguars by participating in various community and charitable events nationally and internationally. These leading ladies also spend time entertaining our United States troops all over the world.
