Wyatt Milum Dedicated To Protecting QB Trevor Lawrence

0512 Wyatt Milum Article

JACKSONVILLE – He's big, aggressive and here for a reason.

Wyatt Milum during Jaguars 2025 rookie minicamp this past weekend said he knows that reason – and as such, he had no problem reiterating what he during the 2025 NFL Draft several weeks ago.

He's here to protect the quarterback – and it's cool to have a chance to do that.

"It's a blessing to be here," Milum said.

Milum, selected by the Jaguars in Round 3 of the ’25 draft – No. 89 overall – was among 31 rookies participating in '25 rookie camp at the Miller Electric Center. He and the other rookies will begin working with veterans this week as Phase 2 of the voluntary offseason program continues.

Milum, an offensive tackle at West Virginia who is moving to guard in the NFL, was among several rookies Head Coach Liam Coen lauded Saturday following the second of two non-padded, non-contact minicamp practices.

And while there's a limit to how much an offensive lineman can be evaluated – or stand out – in a non-contact environment, the Jaguars made clear during the draft they like Milum and the potential he brings to an offensive line that is a key offseason storyline.

"He's a big dude, he's long; it's the ability to play multiple spots at a high level and just the finish – the way the guy plays, the toughness," Coen said during the draft. "He's rooted in that.

"That's kind of what he prides himself on being, and that's what he is kind of known for around that building is being a guy that finishes, that plays the game the right way, that approaches it the right way."

The Jaguars selected two offensive linemen in the draft – Milum and Round 7 center Jonah Monheim – after signing four offensive linemen in free agency: center Robert Hainsey, guard Patrick Mekari, tackle Fred Johnson and Chuma Edoga.

"Obviously, he (Milum) is somebody that's walking in as a rookie and is going to come in with a high level of college experience and really a lot of intangible elements," Jaguars General Manager James Gladstone said. "It's something that we look forward to him bringing to the room and really absorbing across the group that's already here."

Milum made clear his approach and attitude during his post-draft media availability when – in addition to saying fans will see in him someone who plays through the whistle – he vowed to fans to not let anyone touch quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

"I'm going to make that promise to them, and I'm going to make that promise to Trevor," he said.

Milum, the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year and a consensus All-America selection in 2024, said during minicamp that he absolutely had a wow-I'm-in-the-NFL moment upon arriving in Jacksonville.

"You see people that you saw playing in college when you were in high school, you see people that you never thought you would see, so that has been a blessing," he said. "Just seeing Trevor out here is awesome. I watched him when I was in high school growing up. Just seeing him in the locker room is surreal."

But not so surreal that he forgot his draft-weekend vow.

"When I say something, I mean it," Milum said. "Not to talk too much about college, but I felt like that's something I took pride in and I've always taken pride in. Especially if you're playing offensive line, you don't want no one touching a quarterback.

"I feel like that's the mindset here, especially. That's one reason why I love playing here already, is just the mindset that we have on this offensive line. We don't want anyone touching Trevor."

  • With the 2025 NFL schedule scheduled to be announced Wednesday, Coen said he hopes the Jaguars will have joint practices with other teams during 2025 Training Camp. Teams typically schedule joint practices against preseason opponents during the week leading to the games. “We’ll see,” Coen said. "It all kind of depends on the schedule and the league and all that. We haven't been able to get that information quite yet. We'll continue to utilize any asset we can to make that work, but we've had some communication."
