JACKSONVILLE – As ramp-up days go, Sunday featured some highlights.
Day 4 of Jaguars 2025 Training Camp had energy, star power, and standout performances—just in time for the shift to full pads.
Among the Sunday notables: Rookie defensive back/wide receiver Travis Hunter and Pro Bowl wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., the latter of whom responded to a frustrating Friday with a strong Sunday featuring an athletic back-of-the-end-zone touchdown reception from quarterback Trevor Lawrence late in practice.
"It was good to see that, to see him get his opportunities and come down with some of those catches," Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski said.
Not that there was any real worry over Thomas, one of the NFL's top young wide receivers after a rookie season in which he caught 87 passes for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns.
"When you have those off days, when you're a player like BTJ, you kind of expect that bounce-back day a little bit," Udinski said of Thomas, who also had a long gain on a pass from Lawrence in a two-minute period. "The anticipation is he will make those plays. So, there was never really any worry or doubt that he was a guy who could come down with some of those catches that he didn't come down with.
"It was just a matter of time and execution. So, it was good to see, but I wouldn't say that there was any concern leading into the day that we needed to see that."
The Jaguars on Sunday worked for two hours in 90-degree temperatures in helmets and spiders. They held extensive 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 work, with Hunter – the No. 2 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft – working exclusively on defense at cornerback for a second consecutive day after working exclusively on offense at wide receiver on Days 1 and 2.

Udinski called Hunter's progress since the late April draft "really encouraging."
"Even from the end of the spring to the start of training camp, you noticed the progression not only from a mental standpoint, but from a technique and release standpoint at the receiver position," Udinski said. "I only expect with the way he works and approaches it, that progression to continue."
Hunter took 21 repetitions in 11-on-11 and three in seven-on-seven Sunday, registering three pass breakups – one each while defending Thomas, wide receiver Austin Trammell and wide receiver Joshua Cephus.
"That is the ultimate bittersweet because it is miserable seeing him make plays on the ball during practice, but it's a team game," Udinski said. "So, it is exciting in the end to see him make plays, and you see the ball skills that show up on defense, the same thing translates to offense. It's exciting to see him flourish."
The Jaguars are expected to practice in full pads in Monday's Day 5 practice at the MEC. They are also expected to work in full pads Tuesday before an off day Wednesday.
"I'm excited about pads tomorrow," Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen said. "I think it really affects the front, the front four, front seven, more than anybody else. But I'm ready to put my face in. I'm ready for contact. I'm ready to have some contact and really see what it's about. So, I'm excited."

👀 Here's a look at Sunday's practice:
PLAY OF THE DAY
- Among Sunday's highlights was a standout defensive play from veteran defensive back Darnell Savage. First-year wide receiver Joshua Cephus, who has had multiple impressive catches early in camp, broke briefly behind the defense and Hunter on a deep pass from backup quarterback Nick Mullens. Savage, who signed with the Jaguars as an unrestricted free agent before the 2024 season, leaped high and defended the pass with one hand to break up a potential long gain.
STANDING OUT
- Kicker Cam Little converted two of two long field-goal attempts in two-minute period late in practice.
- Running back Tank Bigsby and rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten had strong, long runs early in 11-on-11 work and rookie running back LeQuint Allen Jr. turned a screen pass into a long gain.
- Cornerback Jourdan Lewis had a pass breakup and cornerback Christian Braswell also had a pass breakup.
INJURY WATCH
- Cornerback Montaric Brown remained out of practice Sunday with a lower leg injury.
- Guard Patrick Mekari missed Sunday's practice after leaving Friday's practice with a back issue.
- Wide receiver Louis Reez-Zammit missed practice as did tight end Johnny Mundt.
- Defensive tackle Maason Smith and linebacker Dennis Gardeck remain on the Physically Unable to Perform list to start camp, with Smith's injury undisclosed and Gardeck having sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament with the Arizona Cardinals last season.
