Jaguars' Offense Building Consistency, Drive, and Trust Ahead of Week 13

wed quick hits

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars on Wednesday practiced at the Miller Electric Center.

The Jaguars (7-4) will play the Tennessee Titans (1-10) at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday in a 2025 Week 13 game. A look at Wednesday around the Jaguars – with Head Coach Liam Coen speaking to the media before practice and quarterback Trevor Lawrence speaking to the media after practice:

Lawrence on Wednesday said he likes the overall trajectory of the offense.

"We're moving it really well," he said.

The Jaguars in winning 3 of the last 4 games have scored at least 27 points in 4 consecutive games – their longest such stretch since 2017. They have produced at least 348 yards in 3 of 4 games, with the exception a Week 10 loss against the Houston Texans – the No. 1-ranked defense in the NFL.

"There is definitely stuff to clean up, as there always is, but overall we have been more consistent," Lawrence said. "We've had some turnovers we need to clean up, but most of those possessions we were moving the ball. Our time of possession already has been good so it's just all positives. Obviously, we have to clean it up but really excited for it."

Trevor Lawrence on Wednesday also discussed the support he receives from Coen, who on Monday said he never lost faith in the passing offense in a 27-24 victory overtime victory over the Arizona Cardinals Sunday – even with Lawrence throwing 3 interceptions along with 3 touchdown passes.

"That as a quarterback is a good feeling when you know your coach trusts you regardless of the circumstances," Lawrence said. "He still trusted me with the ball to go make plays and was happy we were able to get it done – for obviously for him, for our team. That's a big part of this whole team deal – is the trust. It's with coach to us and vice versa. We have that and it's continuing to grow every week, so it has been fun."

Jaguars linebacker Foyesade Oluokun this past Sunday surpassed 1,000 tackles for his career, registering 10 tackles against the Cardinals. He now has 1,009 for his career and is 1 of 6 active NFL players with more than 1,000 career tackles.

"It's a testament to me being around the ball and it's kind of validation that I'm doing good things," he said. "I just wanted to win to make sure it wasn't a sad thing. We played a good game, a resilient win, so it will always be a great memory."

The Jaguars on Wednesday opened the 21-day window for safety Eric Murray to return from injured reserve.

"We'll see how the week progresses and go from there," Murray said.

Murray, who signed with the Jaguars as an unrestricted free agent in March, started the first 7 games of the season and spent the last four games on injured reserve with a neck injury.

"We'll see what he looks what he looks like throughout the week," Coen said. "It's great to just get him back out on the grass."

Coen cited Murray's ability to communicate and "calm things down with his presence," also saying safety Antonio Johnson has "stepped up in a major way" in Murray's place.

"Eric back will definitely help," Coen said. "We'll see what it looks like for his availability this week, but Antonio Johnson is playing with as much confidence as I've ever seen him have and is impacting the game for us in a positive way."

The Jaguars on Wednesday released the first of three injury reports for the week, with starting defensive end Travon Walker missing practice with a knee injury. Offensive lineman Chuma Edoga (calf), starting right guard Patrick Mekari (concussion) and defensive end Danny Striggow (knee) also missed practice Wednesday.

Walker missed this past Sunday with the injury, with Edoga, Mekari and Striggow sustaining their injuries in that game.

Five Jaguars players were listed as practicing limited Wednesday:

  • Wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. (ankle)
  • Linebacker Yasir Abdullah (finger)
  • Cornerback Christian Braswell (hamstring)
  • Cornerback Jarrian Jones (quadriceps)
  • Antonio Johnson (elbow)

Starting nickel corner Jourdan Lewis (neck) practiced full after missing the last three games, with tight end Hunter Long (knee) practicing full after missing the last three games and starting right tackle Anton Harrison (knee/ankle) practicing full after missing the last two games.

Brian Thomas Jr. has missed the last three games with the ankle injury and Coen said the team will take the injury "day by day."

"We'll have to see what he looks like this week and see how much he can do and help us get out in the grass," Coen said. "We definitely need his presence and to get somebody out there that can continue to stretch the field and make big plays for us."
