Liam Coen on Responding to Change: "It's on All of Us…"

JACKSONVILLE – After the sting of the first loss of the season, Liam Coen knows there is only one response: Move forward.

The Jaguars on Sunday will play host to the New England Patriots, their second game in as many weeks against a 2025 division champion. After a close loss to defending AFC West champion Denver Sunday, the Jaguars' forward-looking approach is by necessity.

"We don't have enough time to waste looking back," Coen said, with wide receiver Parker Washington adding, "We'll be ready to respond this week."

"I feel like that's what makes this offense, this team, special,'' Washington said. "No matter what, we move forward."

The Jaguars, who had won nine consecutive regular-season games before Sunday's loss to the Broncos, face a significant challenge Sunday. The Patriots, 20-3 winners over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Foxboro, Mass., Sunday, won the AFC East and the AFC last season.

"We have a darn good opponent that played in the Super Bowl last year coming into town that we know they're going to be a very well-coached, disciplined, darn good football team with a good quarterback," Coen said. "Our guys, talking to them after the game on the plane, when we got back, a lot of guys understood what took place and the areas in which we need to improve on."

The Jaguars thrived in similar situations last season, winning the following week after all but one of four regular-season losses.

"It's football," Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence said. "It's how you respond. That is what it is all about. You are going to play some good teams, you are going to have some tough losses, and you have to be able to respond next week.

"I am confident that we are going to respond and that are going to be ready to go against New England. That's what teams do."

After playing in a difficult environment last week at Empower Field in Mile High Stadium, the Jaguars will return to a friendly home stadium against New England. Sunday's game will be the last Jaguars game played at EverBank Stadium until Week 8 against the Indianapolis Colts.

"We need a true home field advantage this week," Coen said. "Obviously, not going to be here for a while and definitely need the community and fan base to come out and support as much as possible."

For the Jaguars to find success Sunday, it will mean a clear focus on the Patriots and putting the Broncos game in the past.

"It's all of us in it together and that's the best part of it is we have the opportunity now to respond," Coen said.

NOTABLE

Defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton was among five Jaguars players listed as limited on Wednesday's first injury report of the week. Hamilton left Sunday's loss to the Broncos with a back injury and returned. Also listed as limited Wednesday: Running back LeQuint Allen Jr. (hip), wide receiver Jakobi Meyers (thumb), right tackle Cole Van Lanen (knee) and center Robert Hainsey (elbow/quad/groin). Allen, Meyers and Van Lanen all were listed similarly last week and played Sunday. Cornerback Christian Braswell was listed as practicing full with a knee issue.

NOTABLE

It has been a good start to the season for Washington, who leads the Jaguars with 12 catches for 181 yards and a touchdown. He has made big plays in each of the first two games, and his consistency continues to stand out. "He runs routes with urgency," Coen said Wednesday. Washington's 181 receiving yards are second-most in the AFC through two weeks. "Every route he's running, he has twitch, ability to separate, ripping through the middle of the field fearlessly so he can run the routes, the tree in terms of the short, the intermediate and you saw the double move last week that he hit," Coen said. "They (Washington and Lawrence) have a rapport, obviously, which is nice to have. We have to continue to look at spreading the wealth around as well, and getting guys involved a little bit earlier on, but he's playing at a high level."
