Jags make surprise visits

In conjunction with the release of the 2004 season schedule, the Jaguars kicked off the 10th Anniversary Season with the "Jaguars Rally the Community" outreach program last Thursday with several Jaguars players making surprise visits to businesses and non-profit organizations throughout Jacksonville. Jaguars players made unscheduled stops in the city's surrounding areas including San Marco, Orange Park, the Southside and the Westside.

"It's great to see the reaction of the people when you just pop in on them at their place of business," said Jaguars center Brad Meester, after stopping in at Winn-Dixie located at 9-A and Baymeadows Road. "Being out here gives us the chance to show our support for the fans that support us during the season. Usually the fans don't recognize us because when they normally see us, we're in full game gear and they don't know what we really look like off the field," he added.

Jaguars defensive backs Kiwaukee Thomas, Rashean Mathis and Nick Sorensen paid visits to Moe's Southwestern Grille, Stein Mart, Panera Breads and Southern Wine and Spirits on Jacksonville's Westside.

"It's great to get up close and personal with the fans that we normally don't get to see. We wanted to come out and get the fans pumped up for this season," Thomas said. "We need our 12th man out there this year," he added.

Jaguars' offensive tackle Maurice Williams, safety Anthony Mitchell and cornerback Dewayne Washington visited Baptist Medical Center and The Bridge of Northeast Florida located in San Marco. Quarterbacks David Garrard and Quinn Gray and cornerback Blue Adams stopped by Coggin Pontiac and Best Buy in Orange Park on Thursday.

Community visits will continue on Monday with stops scheduled in the Southpoint, Mandarin/ Baymeadows and San Pablo areas while visits scheduled for Tuesday will include the Downtown, Beaches and Regency areas.
