Caught the Eye: Rising Potential of Jaguars' Second-and Third-Year Veterans, Including Linebackers

0527 DAY 4 CAMPSERVATIONS

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars held Day 4 of their 2025 organized team activities at the Miller Electric Center Tuesday.

Four Jaguars media members – senior writer John Oehser, senior correspondent Brian Sexton, senior reporter/editor J.P. Shadrick and team reporter/producer Kainani Stevens – shared an observation following practice. Here they are:

  • Senior Writer John Oehser: New week, similar story. As was the case in Week 1 of '25 OTAs, the Jaguars' speed and athleticism offensively stood out Tuesday as they opened Week 2 – and Dyami Brown continued to stand out and draw praise. Brown, a wide receiver who signed as an unrestricted free agent from Washington in March, caught multiple passes for explosive gains Tuesday – and it's increasingly why many close to the team expect him to have a major impact in his first season with the Jaguars. Rookie wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter and second-year veteran Brian Thomas Jr. also both continued to flash Tuesday – and if this trio looks as good in the regular season as it has in the first two weeks of competitive offseason work, this receiving corps could have a special feel. Another clear storyline as we move forward: The leaner look of the defense. Players such as defensive ends Travon Walker and Josh Hines-Allen and linebacker Devin Lloyd all appear significantly lighter this offseason after gaining weight to play in last season's defensive scheme. From this view, that can't help but help all three in 2025.

  • Senior Correspondent Brian Sexton: I was intrigued by the linebacker position watching practice Tuesday. First and foremost, middle linebacker Foyesade Oluokun looks completely dialed into a new defense. That probably isn't a stretch for a Yale graduate, but the speed at which he moved relative to the other 10 guys on the field was striking. This is a big year for fourth-year veteran Devin Lloyd, whose fifth-year option for 2026 was not exercised by the club, and he looked pretty good also. Lloyd certainly is a lot leaner than he was last season, which probably explains his suddenness. Ventrell Miller looks ready to take another step and rookie Jack Kiser was the reason for my interest. He spent nearly every moment in Oluokun's shadow and must be a quick learner because he didn't look like a newcomer for most of Tuesday's session. There is talent and potential in this group, and it was on display at the start of the second week of OTAs.

  • Senior Reporter/ Editor J.P. Shadrick: The Jaguars returned to work after the holiday weekend with the fourth OTA practice in hot, humid and sunny conditions – and Head Coach Liam Coen said the team came back with solid focus. A few plays stood out, including a deep completion to rookie receiver Cam Camper, and a toe-tapping sideline catch for tight end Brenton Strange in tight coverage. Safety Andrew Wingard intercepted quarterback Trevor Lawrence in seven-on-seven work, but Lawrence also completed a number of passes downfield to Thomas and Brown. The Jaguars are scheduled to be on the field only nine more times in this offseason program.
  • Team Reporter/Producer Kainani Stevens: There was no easing back into OTAs after the holiday weekend as the Jaguars practiced for over two hours on Tuesday in the midday sun. The defense once again shined with some impressive plays by the secondary – including Wingard's interception off a Lawrence pass. Overall, the defense looks faster. Several prominent players such as Hines-Allen, Lloyd and Walker all look noticeably smaller than their playing weights last season. At this point in the offseason, things look like they're right about where they should be.
