Jaguars 2025 Offensive Preview: New Coordinator, O-Line Strength and Key Pass Catchers To Keep an Eye On

070825 Key Storylines Article

JACKSONVILLE – Jaguars experts – Frank Frangie, Brent Martineau, John Oehser, Brian Sexton, J.P. Shadrick and Kainani Stevens – are breaking down the Jaguars as the 2025 NFL season approaches; today: The Jaguars' most important offensive storyline as the '25 season approaches.

Frank Frangie, Radio Voice of the Jaguars

  • Most important offensive storyline: Lawrence's development. And how he fits into Coen's scheme. Liam unlocked some things with quarterback Baker Mayfield with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season that we had not seen before. Will it happen again?

  • Most important offensive storyline: The running game. It's a big part of why Coen was hired and it's a major curiosity. Who will be the featured back? How will the rookies impact the room? As part of the run game, the Jaguars added to the offensive line this offseason and are hoping for big things from tackles Anton Harrison and Walker Little. This is a football team that hasn't been able to consistently get a yard when needed for three seasons. If Coen can't fix that, the Jaguars are in trouble again.

  • Most important offensive storyline: There are numerous key Jaguars offensive storylines as the '25 season approaches – but with a nod to an offensive line that must improve as a run-blocking unit, the development of quarterback Trevor Lawrence trumps all else in this area. Yes, the Jaguars can improve offensively if the line -- particularly the interior – is nastier and stouter than in recent seasons. Too many short-yardage situations have turned bad for this team in recent seasons, hampering the offense's ability to stay on the field and making the entire offense more predictable and easier to defend. But the key to this franchise this season and in the foreseeable future is Lawrence. He must remain healthy and improve his field awareness. Lawrence spent the offseason focused on learning the fundamentals and footwork necessary to excel in Head Coach Liam Coen's system. The reviews of coaches were positive as the offseason ended. If those reviews stay positive and continue improving into the season, the Jaguars can improve rapidly and contend for the postseason. If not …

  • Most important offensive storyline*:* Will Coen do for the Jaguars running game what he did for the Buccaneers running attack in 2024? In case you don't recall, he took a unit that was bottom five in the NFL in 2023 and made them top five in 2024 – and the result was the best season of Mayfield's career. If the Jaguars can convert on third down and short, which they've struggled to do the last two seasons, then perhaps we'll see the best season of Lawrence's career. The Jaguars must be able to run the ball to keep the offense balanced and on the field. If they do, this team will be back in the hunt for the AFC South title. A revamped offensive line makes this storyline even more interesting when training camp begins in late July.

  • Most important offensive storyline: Lawrence's development and knowledge of the new offense. His relationship with Coen and offensive coordinator Grant Udinski will be under the microscope as we begin to get into the big-money seasons of his new contract starting in 2026.

Kainani Stevens, Jaguars Team Reporter

  • Most important offensive storyline: I'm most intrigued by Lawrence learning yet another offensive system. Coen has been vocal that he will be tailoring everything to set Lawrence up for success. Also, with the departures of wide receiver Christian Kirk and tight end Evan Engram, Lawrence will need to build new connections with his young wide receiving corps. Getting comfortable in the new scheme during training camp is crucial for the Jags getting off to a hot start this season.
