Jaguars Media Experts Reveal Position Group They Trust Most Entering This Season

Final Analysis - Position Group

JACKSONVILLE – Jaguars experts – Frank Frangie, Brent Martineau, John Oehser, Brian Sexton, J.P. Shadrick and Kainani Stevens – are breaking down the Jaguars as the 2025 NFL season approaches; today: a look at the "experts'" most trusted position group entering the '25 season

Frank Frangie, Radio Voice of the Jaguars

  • Position group I trust the most entering the '25 season: I think the three receivers –Thomas, Hunter and Brown -- form the best group on the team. I can't wait to see them all together.

Brent Martineau, Action Sports Jax Sports Director

  • Position group I trust the most entering the '25 season: This is a tough one. I could take the easy way out and pick special teams, but I won't do that. I think I trust the edge rushers the most because of Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker. I trust their durability and production. I think you can pencil those guys in for double-digit sacks. I also like what the front office did with the edge depth - finally! I think Emmanuel Ogbah, Dawuane Smoot and Dennis Gardeck have resumes that should provide the Jags with a nice complement to Hines-Allen and Walker.

  • Position group I trust the most entering the '25 season: This is a tricky question, with the roster having been revamped enough this offseason that there is hope around most positions. But there is a difference between hope and trust, with the thought here that wide receiver gets the edge overall in this category – just barely. The biggest reason for that trust? Second-year veteran Brian Thomas Jr., who was strikingly productive and consistent in a Pro Bowl rookie season, emerging as perhaps the best player regardless of position on the Jaguars' roster. Thomas during the '25 offseason program had the look of a player on the verge of a second-year jump to elite status. The Jaguars love the potential of the rest of the group, with the additions of free agent Dyami Brown and rookie Travis Hunteri giving this group the potential to be team's best. While Brown must prove his late-season surge in Washington last season was what he will be consistently, and while Hunter must prove he's as dynamic professionally as he was collegiately, this group can pressure defenses and make this Jaguars offense consistently more explosive.

  • Position group I trust the most entering the '25 season: I think I trust the defensive line the most, but the group must be better in 2025 than last season. I absolutely trust Hines-Allen and Walker off the edge and the addition of Ogbah – and the return of Smoot – give me confidence this group will be productive no matter who is on the field. I'm optimistic that Arik Armstead and DaVon Hamilton will lead the way on the inside but also that second year tackles Maason Smith and Jordan Jeffersonwill both take big steps in 2025. Perhaps the same can be said for Tyler Lacy, who looks bigger and more prepared than he has been in his first two seasons. I think the real reason I trust this group is Hines-Allen, Walker and Armstead, who have all said they're going to be different and better this season.

  • Position group I trust the most entering the '25 season: Defensive ends. Hines-Allen and Walker are as sturdy of a presence as you could find on the edges and go about their business the right way. Hopefully a little lighter playing weight will bring back their explosiveness this season.

Kainani Stevens, Jaguars Team Reporter

  • Position group I trust the most entering the '25 season: Does special teams count? Besides the specialists, I feel confident in the new alignment on the defensive line. Arik Armstead is returning to his natural position as a defensive tackle and the front office has added edge rush depth behind team cornerstones Walker and Hines-Allen. The constant line substitutions under former defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen will be a thing of the past. A more balanced defense across the board will lead to a big bounce back for Jacksonville's pass rush as well.
