JACKSONVILLE – It's still early and the intensity remains high.
Day 2 of Jaguars 2025 Training Camp in a very real – and very important – way mirrored Day 1. There were no pads, and minimal hitting. But there was a lot of work, a lot of production and a good feeling as the Jaguars moved closer to padded practices.
"So far, so good," Jaguars defensive end Travon Walker said.
The Jaguars on Thursday worked for about an hour and forty-five minutes at the Miller Electric Center. This was the second practice of '25 camp, taking place in 85-degree temperatures with players working in shorts and helmets.
NFL rules mandate a four-day "ramp-up" period at the beginning of training camp, with the Jaguars scheduled to practice in pads for the first time in '25 camp Monday.
"That's always a huge deal," Defensive Coordinator Anthony Campanile said of Monday. "It's an exciting time for the players, too, but the only thing we can control is what we're doing every day. That drill work that we're doing is such a critical part of coaching. You have to simulate the things that are going to happen in the game and you have to be laser-focused.

"They're getting constant, consistent feedback so when they go out there in full pads they can go out there and play at a high level of performance."
Campanile, entering his first season as the Jaguars' defensive coordinator, is installing an aggressive defense. The coordinator and scheme continue to draw praise from veterans, with the Jaguars having struggled defensively last season.
The Jaguars ranked 31st of 32 teams in yards allowed (389.9 yards per game) in 2024, 28th in points allowed (25.6) and last in takeaways (nine overall, eight defensively).
"I love the attack mentality, just the mentality that 'Camp' brings alone," Walker said. "He's the same high-energy guy every day. As a person looking at someone else, all you can ask for is them is to be consistent every day. He has been that every day."

Here's a look at Thursday's practice:
PLAY OF THE DAY
- This came from a veteran defensive player, with Day 2 featuring multiple disruptive plays from a unit that finished last in the NFL in takeaways (nine, eight by the defense) last season).
- During an 11-on-11 drill late in Thursday's practice, Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw an accurate deep post to second-year wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. Thomas appeared to have a long gain or possible touchdown, but four-year veteran Zechariah McPhearson made an athletic, well-timed play to break up the pass. McPhearson, a fourth-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, spent 2022-2023 with the Eagles and joined the Jaguars' practice squad last September after being waived by the Eagles in August.
STANDING OUT
- Rookie wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter continued to have a strong start to camp. He caught two passes while playing exclusively on offense, participating in 22 snaps – six in seven-on-seven work and 14 in 11-on-11 work. He caught an intermediate pass from Lawrence early in practice and turned it into a long, catch-and-run gain.
- Thomas had a long catch-and-run gain on a pass from Nick Mullens in 7-on-7 work that could have been a touchdown.
- First-year wide receiver Joshua Cephus also continued a strong run to start camp, catching a deep pass from backup quarterback Josh Mullens in a late-practice seven-on-seven drill and catching an intermediate pass from Mullens later in practice.
- Wide receiver Parker Washington had a nice snatching reception on a pass from Mullens late in practice.
- Running back Travis Etienne Jr. had multiple strong runs Thursday, and rookie running back LeQuint Allen Jr. also had a strong run over the right side late in practice.
- Walker defensed a pass late in practice.
- Safety Antonio Johnson returned an early-practice interception for a touchdown.
- Defensive back Doneiko Slaughter had an interception off rookie quarterback Seth Henigan late in practice that he returned for a long touchdown.
KEY STORYLINE
- **Walker:** "Training camp is going to feel like training camp every year, especially here with the heat. But it's training camp. We all know it's a time where we all try to come together to help build the team chemistry to help get where we want to go during the season. It has been great so far. The coaching is going great. I feel like they're doing a great job with the play calling. We're just refreshing on the plays, so obviously they're not just pouring on. It's not our first time hearing it, but the staff so far is great."
INJURY WATCH
- Jaguars veteran cornerback Montaric "Buster" Brown missed practice Thursday with a lower leg injury. He was held out for precautionary reasons and is considered "day to day." Defensive tackle Maason Smith and linebacker Dennis Gardeck remain on the Physically Unable to Perform list to start camp, with Smith's injury undisclosed and Gardeck having sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament with the Arizona Cardinals last season.
