JACKSONVILLE – Jaguars 2025 Training Camp continued Tuesday.
It was the 17th day of the first training camp under Head Coach Liam Coen, featuring about an hour-and-15-minute in helmets and shorts at the Miller Electric Center. Each day throughout camp, members of Jaguars Media – senior writer John Oehser, senior correspondent Brian Sexton, senior reporter/editor J.P. Shadrick and team reporter Kainani Stevens – will share an observation.
Here are Tuesday's "campservations:"
John Oehser, Jaguars Senior Writer…
- The Jaguars on Tuesday moved into Preseason Week 3 with a comparatively light, short Day 17 practice a day before traveling to South Florida for a joint practice against the Miami Dolphins Thursday. With Tuesday heavy on details and assignments – and light on "live," highlight plays – we'll focus these "campservations" on overall thoughts as camp draws to a close. A key development in recent weeks has been solidifying the running game. That the Jaguars have run effectively and impressively in spots in the first two preseason games is a positive sign for Head Coach Liam Coen, who expressed confidence in the area Tuesday with the caveat that it's still preseason and the Jaguars have yet to play against an opponent's first-team defense. Whatever the starting level of the opponent, the Jaguars appear to be embracing Coen's mindset that this team must run effectively when it needs to run. That must be this team's identity. The glimpses we have seen in this vein so far doesn't guarantee success, but they're signs that the Jaguars may be moving in the right direction.

Brian Sexton, Senior Correspondent…
- I spent a lot of time watching the defensive line Tuesday, probably because Arik Armstead and Maason Smith were both practicing for the first time since camp opened. Mix in Khalen Saunders, who just arrived from New Orleans; Dawuane Smoot, who is back from Buffalo; and Emmanuel Ogbah, who was last in Miami; and you have a really interesting group – and I didn't even mention Travon Walker, Josh Hines-Allen and DaVon Hamilton. There are proven veterans, promising young players and quality depth for the first time in years. I asked Hines-Allen about having Smoot and Ogbah in the group and he just smiled and nodded along.
"Those two guys are going to make it a lot easier," he said. "To have them keeping the pressure on when me and Travon are on the sidelines, it's nice."

J.P. Shadrick, Jaguars Senior Reporter/Editor …
- We are through two preseason games and have plenty to take away as we head into Preseason Week 3 against the Dolphins this week. First off, the bounce-back ability of the Jaguars showed this week. The Pittsburgh Steelers game in Preseason Week 1 was sloppy in areas, but the practices the next week focused on those issues. To their credit, the team – especially the starters – played a cleaner brand of football against the New Orleans Saints in Week 2: limited penalties, defense lined up on time, moving the ball efficiently on offense. Yes it was mainly against Saints backups, but I still see this as good sign that they can take advantage of the work week, but now it's time to build upon that. The most intense practice remaining should be Thursday against the Dolphins, as I would expect surefire front-line players to rest in Saturday night's preseason finale.

- The Jaguars enter camp's final week looking to solidify their identity under this new regime. Mechanics and operations in New Orleans looked vastly better than the miscommunication and penalties that were prominent in the preseason debut. Saunders' addition should help the defensive line, which was running low on bodies. His presence will undoubtedly be a positive addition to the locker room and he adds veteran experience at multiple positions. Tuesday's practice was light as the team preps for a trip to Miami and I expect more of the same on Wednesday. Hoping to see some good competitive reps Thursday at joint practice with the Dolphins.
