JACKSONVILLE – Jaguars 2025 Training Camp continued Friday.
It was the eighth day of the first training camp under Head Coach Liam Coen, featuring the 2025 Stadium Scrimmage at EverBank Stadium. Each day throughout camp, members of Jaguars Media – senior writer John Oehser, senior correspondent Brian Sexton, senior reporter/editor J.P. Shadrick and team reporter Kainani Stevens – will share an observation.
Here are "campservations" from the "mock game:"

- This was a good, productive night – and an encouraging one for the Jaguars and quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Head Coach Liam Coen late Friday night called Lawrence's performance in the mock game "awesome," and the fifth-year quarterback indeed was sharp throughout and mixed in explosive plays with three touchdown passes – two to second-year wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. and one to tight end Brenton Strange. Lawrence also connected with rookie wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunterand veteran Dyami Brown for extended gains, and Coen clearly felt better about the passing offense after Friday than he had at any point thus far in 2025 Training Camp. A hat tip, too, to a strong pass rush led by defensive end Travon Walker, who was disruptive throughout with three would-be sacks. The front-line players looked like front-line players Friday, and this overall looked like a prepared team in its first "mock-game" environment with a new coaching staff.

- I keep pushing the De'Antre Prince button and maybe we're getting closer to seeing if he can be what I think he can be. The second-year cornerback worked with the No. 2 defense Friday night, matching with Thomas on the opening series. Thomas ran a precise route to the front corner of the end zone. Lawrence threw a dart to Thomas' back shoulder, but the long and rangy Prince made an excellent play and broke it up. A fifth-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, he never found a place in former Jaguars defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen's scheme – though to be fair, no one really did. I continue to believe Prince is the Jags' future starter opposite cornerback Tyson Campbell. He has the physical tools and mental makeup to man that spot, and the amateur scout in me thinks he might be a long-term solution at a critical position.

- The Jaguars scrimmaged inside the stadium in front of about 11,000 fans for about an hour and a half, after a full game warmup, locker room runout and National Anthem run-through. There were plenty of eyes on Hunter, who started the night on offense with a couple long catches from Lawrence and showed the dancing ability he has after the catch. Midway through practice, he ran across the field onto the defensive sideline and changed into the white defensive jersey to play the rest of the way. How he responds from this work should determine how the schedule either changes or remains for him in training camp – and possibly in this week's Preseason Week 1 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was also good to see Lawrence connect twice with Thomas for touchdowns in the red zone. Walker had some strong rushes from defensive end, and cornerback Jourdan Lewis made a spectacular diving interception along the sideline off quarterback Nick Mullens. The team welcomes fans back to training camp Sunday morning at the Miller Electric Center.

- The Jaguars' Stadium Scrimmage led to one of my most engaging training camp experiences in recent memory. While training camp is a necessary part of the offseason preparation process, it isn't always fun to watch. Friday's scrimmage broke that mold and put on a show for fans. Coen had his team participate in two quarters of "real" football against each other with a game clock, referees and special teams included. Coaches set up some situations at the end of practice, like the two-minute drill, to add even more to the excitement for fans. We also got a chance to see Hunter play both wide receiver and defensive back in the same practice for the first time. Hunter's singularity was obvious as he made the switch look easy and made his presence felt on both sides of the field. Lawrence looked in command and comfortable with his new offense. His one negative on the night was an interception in the end zone, likely a miscommunication with intended target wide receiver Parker Washington. Thomas had one of his best practice days so far in training camp as he hauled in six catches and scored a touchdown. Defensively, it was hard to quantify the pass rush but the secondary impressed with several forced turnovers – including Lewis' interception on the second drive. A solid evening of work all around and a good precursor to next weekend's preseason matchup against the Steelers.
