JACKSONVILLE – He's really good, and the idea is to get better.
Brian Thomas Jr. showed the "good" part in a major way as a rookie, and he continues being honored as such. It's the "improving" part that's his focus as 2025 Jaguars Training Camp continues.
"I definitely feel like I can do more," he said.
Thomas, who emerged as one of the NFL's top young receivers during a Pro Bowl 2024 rookie season, spoke to the media following Day 7 ’25 training camp Thursday at the Miller Electric Center. He discussed multiple topics, including how offseason wide receiver additions such as Travis Hunter and Dyami Brown can assist he and the Jaguars' offense.
"It helps with just competition at practice," Thomas said. "We all motivate each other, so it helps a lot just being able to have them out here each and every day."
Thomas, the No. 23 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, set Jaguars rookie records with 87 receptions for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns. He recently was ranked No. 61 on NFL's Top 100 players for 2025 as announced by NFL.com.
"It means a lot to me to make that my rookie year, coming in, just me wanting to come out here and show what I can do," Thomas said. "I feel like I could have been better, so that's what motivates me to come out next year and do even better."
If such attention for his accomplishments last season might mean more attention from defenses this season, Thomas said he doesn't see it that way.
"I wouldn't say it's having a target on my back," he said. "I would just say I've got to come out and prepare the right way and be ready for whatever the defense throws at us and come out and play team ball and get the job done.

"That's my biggest thing, getting the job done. Getting wins."
Thomas said Thursday he likes the chemistry he is gaining in camp with quarterback Trevor Lawrence. While they're entering their second season together, Lawrence missed seven games last season and finished the season on injured reserve after December surgery on his left – non-throwing – shoulder.
"We're still continuing to grow our relationship," he said. "Just coming out here each and every day continuously putting in that work and trying to be the best that we can be, taking a step forward each and every day to get better."
Added Thomas, "I feel like there's more in the tank for me, so each and every day, each and every game I'm going to come out there and show everything that I can do, show what I can do, try to be better than I was last year."

NOTABLE
- The Jaguars will hold their lone scrimmage of '25 camp inside EverBank Stadium Friday night, with rookie wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter expected to play snaps on both sides of the ball. Hunter, the No. 2 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, has practiced exclusively on offense in four of seven camp practices to date and practiced exclusively on defense the three other days.
- He practiced with the defense Thursday, registering two passes defensed. "What we want to see is just that continued improvement," offensive coordinator Grant Udinski said. "I don't think that there's anything specific that we would say we need to see [Friday]. We have time to continue to work and progress. I think it's just a continued progression of schematic understanding, the technique, the chemistry with Trevor and the rest of the guys that we want to see in that mock game [Friday]."
NOTABLE
- Udinski on Thursday praised veteran running back Travis Etienne Jr.'s increased grasp of Head Coach Liam Coen’s offense. Etienne, entering his fifth NFL season, has shown impressive versatility and effectiveness as a runner and receiver early in '25 camp. Udinski specifically discussed Etienne's approach studying protection and his "embracing some of the new concepts, or different concepts that we're running." He said Etienne has grown in the area daily. "You see that progression day over day and that's what's exciting about his growth," Udinski said. "He's a guy who has some natural ability to do a lot of that stuff, whether he's lined up in the backfield or whether he's lined up flexed out, in empty, in the slot, all the way out wide. That versatility gives him a lot of options to get the ball in different situations, get the ball in space, which is where he's suited best."
