JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars on Tuesday reduced their roster to 53 players.
The roster breakdown as of Tuesday at 4 p.m.: 23 offensive players, 27 defensive players, a punter, a kicker and a long snapper.
The Jaguars waived 28 players Tuesday, released five others, waived/injured one player, placed one on reserve/injured (designated to return) and one on injured reserve.
NFL teams had until Tuesday at 4 p.m. to reduce rosters to the 53-player regular-season limit. Sixteen players may be on the practice squad, with six of those players allowed to be veterans of any experience.
A position-by-position look at the Jaguars' 53-man roster as of Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Quarterbacks (2)
- Projected starter: Trevor Lawrence (fifth NFL season)
- Others on roster: Nick Mullens (seventh)
This was a fairly clearcut position in 2025 Training Camp, with Lawrence the clear starter and Mullens signed in the offseason to be the backup. Look for rookie Seth Henigan to be the practice-squad quarterback, with the team releasing reserve John Wolford and waiving Henigan Tuesday.
Running backs (4)
- Projected starter: Travis Etienne Jr. (fifth NFL season)
- Others on roster:
- Tank Bigsby (third)
- Bhayshul Tuten (rookie)
- LeQuint Allen Jr. (rookie)
This is one of the deepest positions on the roster, with the Jaguars liking all four players and believing all can be critical to the offense. Etienne, a 1,000-yard rusher in 2022 and 2023 who scored 11 touchdowns in '23, impressed throughout the offseason and training camp with versatility and potential within Head Coach Liam Coen's offensive scheme. Bigsby has shown potential and production in two seasons as a runner and returner. Both rookies, Tuten and Allen, impressed in camp with Tuten perhaps the Jaguars' go-to back in the foreseeable future and Allen – the team's best pass-blocking back – likely to play a critical role on third downs as a rookie. The Jaguars waived rookies Ja'Quinden Jackson and Kevin Harris Tuesday.
Wide receivers (5)
- Projected starters:
- Brian Thomas Jr. (second NFL season)
- Dyami Brown (fifth)
- Travis Hunter (rookie)
- Others on roster:
- Parker Washington (third)
- Austin Trammell (fourth)
This appears to be a strong position, with Thomas earning Pro Bowl honors as a rookie and with Hunter being selected No. 2 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. Hunter, who will play wide receiver and cornerback, should have an extensive role offensively – a role that is expected to grow steadily as a rookie. Brown, signed as an unrestricted free agent from Washington this past offseason, gives the Jaguars three receivers along with Hunter and Thomas with game-breaking ability. Washington, a sixth-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft who improved in each of his first two NFL seasons, had perhaps the best camp and preseason of any Jaguars receiver and played his way into an increased role in the offense. The Jaguars waived Chandler Brayboy, Cam Camper, Darius Lassiter, Eli Pancol and Dorian Singer Tuesday and released veteran Trenton Irwin.
Tight ends (3)
- Projected starter(s): Brenton Strange (third NFL season)
- Others on the roster:
- Hunter Long (fifth)
- Johnny Mundt (eight)
This is a solid, veteran position with no major surprises Tuesday. Strange, a second-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, is the clear No. 1 tight end and has improved steadily in each of his two NFL seasons. The Jaguars signed Long and Mundt as unrestricted free agents, with Long showing receiving skills in camp and Mundt showing good versatility. Mundt and Long both have experience in this offensive system. The Jaguars waived tight ends Quintin Morris, Patrick Herbert, John Copenhaver and Shawn Bowman Tuesday with Herbert and Morris practice-squad possibilities.
Offensive linemen (9)
- Projected starters:
- Left tackle Walker Little (fifth NFL season)
- Left guard Ezra Cleveland (sixth)
- Center Robert Hainsey (fifth)
- Right guard Patrick Mekari (seventh)
- Right tackle Anton Harrison (third)
- Others on roster:
- Chuma Edoga (seventh)
- Jonah Monheim (rookie)
- Wyatt Milum (rookie)
- Cole Van Lanen (fifth)
This was one of the biggest positions of intrigue during Jaguars 2025 Training Camp, with competition the rule and the Jaguars working various players at various positions along the line. Cleveland had one of the better camps along the line, and Hainsey figures to be critical as a veteran leader with Harrison and Little starting on the outside. Edoga and Mekari are both versatile players who can start at guard and be swing players at guard or tackle. The Jaguars like their depth here, with Milum and Monheim having strong camps and Van Lanen – like Edoga and Mekari – a versatile, capable backup who the team likes as a swing tackle.
Defensive ends (6)
- Projected starters:
- Josh Hines-Allen (seventh NFL season)
- Travon Walker (fourth)
- Others on roster:
- Dawuane Smoot (ninth)
- Emmanuel Ogbah (10th)
- B.J. Green II (rookie)
- Danny Striggow (rookie)
Hines-Allen and Walker make this one of the team's strongest positions, with Smoot and Ogbah having signed in the offseason to add experienced depth. This was a major storyline Tuesday, with two collegiate free agents – Green and Striggow – playing their way onto the roster with strong camps and preseason. The thought is both rookie free agents can be strong players in the long run. The Jaguars waived Myles Cole and Ethan Downs Tuesday.
Defensive tackles (5)
- Projected starters:
- DaVon Hamilton (sixth NFL season)
- Arik Armstead (11th)
- Others on roster:
- Maason Smith (second)
- Khalen Saunders (seventh)
- Austin Johnson (10th)
This position, like defensive end, underwent significant change this offseason with an eye on adding experienced depth that can contribute immediately. Armstead is moving back inside after playing end in his first Jaguars season last season, and Hamilton can be a strong presence at nose tackle. Smith spent much of training camp on the physically unable to perform list, but could be key in the interior line rotation. The Jaguars acquired Saunders in a trade and signed Johnson during training camp, significantly increasing capable size and experience on the interior. The Jaguars waived Jordan Jefferson, Tyler Lacy, Keivie Rose and James Carpenter Tuesday.
Linebackers (6)
- Projected starters:
- Foye Oluokun (eighth NFL season)
- Ventrell Miller (third) or Devin Lloyd (fourth)
- Dennis Gardeck (eight)
- Others on roster:
- Devin Lloyd (fourth)
- Jack Kiser (rookie)
- Yasir Abdullah (third)
This will be an intriguing position early in the season as observers get a better idea about the rotation here. Oluokun has been a reliable tackler and leader in his three Jaguars seasons, and Miller impressed throughout training camp. Gardeck spent training camp returning after sustaining a torn anterior cruciate ligament with the Arizona Cardinals last season. The Jaguars waived Branson Combs and Chad Muma, placing rookie Jalen McLeod on injured reserve/designated to return.
Cornerbacks (5, 6 including CB/WR Travis Hunter)
- Projected starters:
- Tyson Campbell (fifth NFL season)
- Jourdan Lewis (ninth)
- Others on the roster:
- Christian Braswell (fourth)
- Jarrian Jones (second)
- Montaric Brown (fourth)
This will be an intriguing position early, with Hunter expected to play a critical role in the secondary. Look for him to play a starting role in passing situations early, with an increased role moving forward. His ball skills and natural coverage ability could make corner a strong position, with Lewis having perhaps the best camp of any player in the Jaguars' secondary. Campbell remans a front-line starter in his fifth NFL season, and Jones – after flashing as a rookie – also impressed coaches with a strong camp on and off the field. Brown is returning from a lower-body injury that kept him out of much of training camp. The Jaguars on Tuesday waived De'Antre Prince, Keni-H Lovely, Jabbar Muhammed and Aydan White.
Safeties (5)
- Projected starters:
- Andrew Wingard (seventh)
- Eric Murray (tenth)
- Others on roster:
- Darnell Savage (seventh)
- Antonio Johnson (third)
- Rayjuan Lane III (rookie)
There was as much competition at this position as any in 2025 Jaguars Training Camp, with the result an experienced and deep position. Johnson and Lane are two of the team's top special teams players, with Johnson impressing during camp and likely to have a role on third downs. The Jaguars placed rookie Caleb Ransaw on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday, also waiving Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig and Doneiko Slaughter,
Specialists (3)
- Kicker Cam Little (second NFL season)
- Punter Logan Cooke (eighth)
- Long snapper Ross Matiscik (sixth)
The Jaguars are as good here as any team in the NFL, with Cooke and Matiscik earning Pro Bowl honors in 2024 and Little emerging as one of the NFL's best young players at his position as a rookie.
