Jaguars' Coordinators Give Week 9 Progress Report on Offense, Defense, and Special Teams

Thursday Quick Hits

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars on Thursday practiced at the Miller Electric Center.

  • Udinski said he sees improvement offensively. The idea now is to see it more consistently with better overall results.

The Jaguars, after scoring 26 or more points in four of the five games, averaged 9.5 points a game in back-to-back losses to the Seattle Seahawks (20-12) and Los Angeles Rams (35-7) the last two games before a Week 8 bye.

"It didn't show in the two games from a final result or in total, but I think there are pieces that you can see from certain individuals, certain groups, or at certain times in the game, of progress," Udinski said. "What we ultimately have to get to is putting all those things together where you don't always have time to wait for everything to piece together perfectly.

"The guys are making progress. I think we need to continue to keep working it and continue to make that progress and keep pushing it and keep having a sense of urgency to get all 11 playing well together at the same time, and that will ultimately drive that result." …

  • The Jaguars' confidence in Cam Little remains high.

K Cam Little (39)

That was evident Thursday, with Farwell discussing the team's reaction to the second-year veteran kicker's recent struggles.

"We love him here," Farwell said.

Little this season has converted 10 of 14 field goals and 14 of 15 extra points, missing three of his last six field-goal attempts – including a 50-yard miss in each of the last two games. Little also missed an extra point against the Seahawks.

"It's not his best; obviously, he'd love to have some of those kicks back," Farwell said. "We love what he's done. The bye week came at a perfect time for him, everybody, all our players and coaches, to kind of reset, get back to what you do.

"Cam strikes the ball as good as anybody in the league. He was able to go home to his hometown in Oklahoma City, and kick on his old goalpost, to reach back and the things he does."

Added Farwell, "He's very confident and we're confident in him. Nothing has wavered with him or with us."

Farwell called the recent stretch part of Little's "process as young kicker, a young specialist."

The Jaguars hit the field Wednesday for Week 9 practice, gearing up for Sunday's road matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders in an AFC showdown.

"You hate to see it happen, but this is part of it," Farwell said. "I told him, "You're going to have three or four of these, probably, over your course of your 15-year career, so this is how we have to manage it. This is how we have to work through it.'

"We're going to work through it with him. It's a cool time for him to kind of work through it with the bye week, get extra time to do it. I'm fired up to see him kick on Sunday. …"

  • The Jaguars through seven games rank 32nd in the NFL in sacks with eight, with defensive tackle Arik Armstead leading the team with 3.5 sacks. Head Coach Liam Coen early this week cited pass rush as an area of focus during the bye.

"I wouldn't say it's a concern," Campanile said. "It's something you're always working at and part of what we're looking at during the break: How we can get better there, how we can generate more pressure. We've had a bunch of pressures. That's great, but at the end of the day, you want to get production, you want to get sacks, you want to get guys on the ground.

"Our guys are doing a really good job of being aware of where we can get better with that, where we can finish getting the guy in the grasp and finally getting him down on the ground. That's certainly a point of emphasis for us, and something we're working our ass off on. …"

  • The Jaguars on Thursday issued the second of three injury reports for the week, with wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter added to the report as limited in practice with a knee injury.
    • Safety Eric Murray missed practice for a second consecutive day with a neck injury
    • Linebacker Devin Lloyd, the AFC's Defensive Player of the Month for September who missed the loss to the Rams with a calf injury, practiced limited Wednesday and Thursday.
    • The following six Jaguars players also practiced limited for a second consecutive day Thursday:
