Walker "to do everything in his power" for Chance To Play in Week 5 vs. Chiefs

2025 QUICK HITS THUMBNAIL

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars on Thursday practiced at the Miller Electric Center.

The Jaguars (3-1) will play the Kansas City Chiefs (2-2) at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville Monday in a 2025 Week 5 game. A look at Thursday around the Jaguars – with Head Coach Liam Coen speaking to the media before practice and quarterback Trevor Lawrence among players speaking following practice:

Jaguars defensive end Travon Walker underwent a surgical procedure on his wrist Monday and is considered "day-to-day" as of Thursday, Coen said. Walker sustained the injury in a victory over the San Francisco 49ers this past Sunday.

Coen said he will be comfortable playing Walker if he is limited in practice this week.

"He has that kind of mindset and mentality," Coen said. "He's going to try to do everything in his power. He just cares so much. He was one of the first guys I saw in the locker room Sunday, just congratulating the team and us. It was pretty cool."

Defensive end Josh Hines-Allen on Walker: "If he's able to go, I know he'll give us 110 percent. He'll do whatever he can to help us win. Whether he's on or off the field, his presence will be felt. I can't wait to see what happens."

Lawrence on Thursday discussed the Jaguars' offense, saying he was a "little frustrated" that the passing offense hasn't yet felt as in sync as the rushing offense.

"We've been finding ways to win, but eventually we're going to have to be able to push the ball down the field and make the big explosive plays in the passing game," Lawrence said. "That's going to happen, but we have to do it."

The Jaguars through four games rank fourth in the NFL in rushing with 144.4 yards per game and 4 touchdowns, ranking 18th in the NFL in passing at 204.5 yards per game. Jaguars wide receivers have caught 1 touchdown pass this season – by Dyami Brown in a 31-26 Week 2 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

"That's something you want to do well," Lawrence said. "As a quarterback, that's a huge part of my job, obviously. It's running the whole offense and getting us in the right play and all that stuff, but it's throwing and catching, too – and I take responsibility for the throws I might miss or the ones where we're not on the same page.

"There's a lot of meat on the bone we're leaving out there. It's something we've been working on in practice, and I think we're going to definitely see some improvements in that. I know we are.

"It's definitely frustrating. The whole room feels like that because we know what we're capable of and haven't quite done it yet."

Monday's game will feature a Jaguars defense that leads the NFL with 13 takeaways through four games versus Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, perhaps the league's best player at his position.

"He's a very smart player," Hines-Allen said of Mahomes. "It's just rush and coverage, again. Up front, we have to affect him. We have to make sure he keeps his eyes on the rush and not just the back end. Even in the back end, we have to do a good job disguising looks.

"He's very smart. He has seen a lot of defenses, a lot of different schemes. You can hear him IDing people, IDing blitzes. He's very smart. We have to be good and detailed and affect him up front."

The Jaguars issued the first of three injury reports for the week Thursday, with Walker and linebacker Yasir Abdullah the only players listed as not participating. Abdullah missed Sunday with a hamstring injury.

Brown practiced limited on Thursday after missing Sunday with a shoulder injury.

Jaguars players practicing limited Thursday: Rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten (shoulder), Brown, starting left guard Ezra Cleveland (concussion/ankle), offensive lineman Chuma Edoga (knee), starting right Anton Harrison (elbow), starting right guard Patrick Mekari (knee), rookie reserve offensive lineman Wyatt Milum (knee) and starting Eric Murray (neck).

Center Robert Hainsey and left tackle Walker Little are the lone starting offensive linemen not listed on this week's injury report.

"We'll see in terms of getting those guys back," Coen said. "We have to be smart with them this week in terms of practicing, getting them the mental reps, also looking at how many reps they can take – just being smart about that."

Coen cited the experience of reserve linemen such as Chuma Edoga and Cole Van Lanen Thursday as "super-valuable" considering the injuries along the line.

"It's great to be able to have the ability to mix and match if you need to, and we did so much of that from the spring through training camp," Coen said. "That has now allowed it to be a little bit more seamless in season."
