Jaguars Offensive Playmaker With Potential To Be the Most Valuable Player in 2025

Offensive MVP Article

JACKSONVILLE – Jaguars experts – Frank Frangie, Brent Martineau, John Oehser, Brian Sexton, J.P. Shadrick and Kainani Stevens – are breaking down the Jaguars as the 2025 NFL season approaches; today: The Jaguars' projected offensive Most Valuable Player in '25

Frank Frangie, Radio Voice of the Jaguars

  • Offensive MVP and why: Thomas. I think he is one of the best receivers in the league. The presence of wide receivers Travis Hunter and Dyami Brown will make it hard to double him. Lawrence will grow, meaning Brian Thomas Jr. will have even better numbers than he did last season.

Brent Martineau, Action Sports Jax Sports Director

  • Offensive MVP and why: I think the offensive MVP is going to be Trevor Lawrence. I think he's hungry and primed for his best season in the NFL - and that wouldn't be a lofty expectation. I also think Lawrence has to be loving the attention on Thomas and Hunter because it has kept him under the radar. Coen has been fantastic with quarterbacks in his career, and you can argue that Lawrence has the most talent of any quarterback he has worked with over the years – and that includes Matthew Stafford. Coen will get Lawrence comfortable and put him in a position to succeed.

  • Offensive MVP and why: This could go multiple directions, with multiple key storylines for the Jaguars offensively as 2025 Training Camp approaches – revamped offensive line and wide receiver positions chief among them. The Jaguars need a slew of additions in those areas to fulfill expectations, and they also need second-year wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. to take the second-year jump to elite status – a jump he absolutely appears poised to take after a Pro Bowl season as a rookie. They also need rookie wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter – the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner – to quickly strain defenses with the elite playmaking skills that made him the No. 2 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. But while Thomas is a good selection for offensive Most Valuable Player, the selection here is quarterback Trevor Lawrence. A major focus of the offseason has been getting the fifth-year veteran, who missed seven games with injuries in an inconsistent 2024 season, acclimated with new Head Coach Liam Coen's offense. If the aforementioned offseason acquisitions contribute as expected, this will be a vastly improved offense. The thought here is that will help Lawrence reach the level he started reaching late in the 2022 season and early in 2023. If he reaches that level, he almost certainly will be the Jaguars' offensive MVP.

  • Offensive MVP and why: Thomas is the best player on the roster and perhaps the most important this season. His ability to stretch the defense to its breaking point will open the field for Hunter and Brown and make Lawrence's job so much easier. It's a quarterback's league, but in Jacksonville, the receiver reigns.

J.P. Shadrick, jaguars.com Senior Reporter

  • Offensive MVP and why: Thomas – a big-play maker, and with more consistent help at receiver and at the quarterback position, he should be poised for another Pro Bowl-caliber season.

Kainani Stevens, Jaguars Team Reporter

  • Offensive MVP and why: Thomas. He had a remarkable rookie season working with Mac Jones the majority of the year. I expect he will outdo himself this year and push himself up into the NFL's elite wide receiver group with the likes of Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings and JaMarr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals.
