GLENDALE, Ariz. – There was a lot of good and a lot of not as good.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence kept throwing and playing through it all – and because he did, and because he made big plays at big times, he stood on tall and bold on a winner's podium after a very big Jaguars victory Sunday.
"I'm never going to play scared," he said.
Lawrence, the Jaguars' fifth-year quarterback, threw 3 touchdown passes and directed what turned into the game-winning drive in a 27-24 overtime victory over the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium Sunday. Those plays countered 4 turnovers by Lawrence, 3 interceptions and a fumble that was returned for an early touchdown.
The turnovers kept the Cardinals in the game. The touchdowns are a big reason the Jaguars won for a second time in as many weeks and are now a game behind the Indianapolis Colts in a tightly-contested AFC South.
"I always have faith in Trevor," said Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange, who caught five passes for a team-high 93 yards in his first game back after a five-game absence with a hip injury. "Trevor's my quarterback, man. I never don't have faith in Trevor.
"Whatever he does, I'm right there with him no matter what. Right there with him."
Lawrence on Sunday completed 18 of 30 passes for 256 yards, with three critical touchdowns: A 15-yarder in the first quarter to running back Travis Etienne Jr., a 10-yarder in the third quarter to wide receiver Jakobi Meyers and a 9-yarder to wide receiver Parker Washington that gave the Jaguars a 24-21 lead with 3:37 remaining.
Among his 4 turnovers: A first-quarter fumble that defensive tackle Walter Nolen III returned 7 yards for a touchdown, a third-quarter interception in the end zone by cornerback Garrett Williams that prevented a Jaguars touchdown and a fourth-quarter interception by safety Budda Baker that led to a Cardinals go-ahead touchdown.
"I just hit him a few times after and was just like, 'Dude, just keep chucking it, man. What are we going to do?''' Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen said. "He was bummed. He was pissed about it, but he kept saying confidently, 'I feel good. I'm throwing it good. I'm seeing it good.'
"Those are just the ebbs and flows of an NFL game on the road, and we pulled out a win."
Lawrence called the turnovers "definitely not ideal and probably not a recipe to win every week," agreeing with Coen that he never lost confidence.
"That's something we preach all the time," he said. "In this league, stuff's going to happen, you're going to deal with some adversity, you're going to have some bad plays – how do you just find a way to play the next play and see what happens?"
Added Lawrence, "People can watch the tape and make their own judgments – I'll watch it and do the same. (I) had some tough plays out there. Those guys make good plays as well. I have to be smart with the ball. We had 4 turnovers and they were all on me. I own that. I have to do my job, take care of the ball and not put our defense in tough spots. Totally get that. I'm never going to play scared.
"I'm going to continue to let it rip and I think that's why we had a chance at the end of the day is because you keep playing. Never going to apologize for that, but I will say cannot turn the ball over four times. I own that and I have to clean that up."

QUOTABLE
- LB Foyesade Oluokun on the Jaguars (7-4) pulling to within a game of the Indianapolis Colts (8-3) in the AFC South with the Jaguars' victory Sunday and the Colts' 23-20 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs: "It's not about anybody else but us. Let's control these 6 games and get those wins. We play the Colts twice. When they see us, we have to handle what we're supposed to handle."
QUOTABLE
- Lawrence: "My job is to keep playing regardless of some mistakes early on or some balls that just bounce the wrong way and their guys make plays. You have to be able to overcome it and keep playing. All the guys around me, the whole crew on offense (and) defense stepped up and made huge plays all day and had our back when we put them in some tough spots. The other 10 guys out there with me, they had my back."
