Lawrence Talks Jaguars' Focus Against Bengals: "More and more consistency…"

2025 QUICK HITS WED THUMBNAIL

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars on Wednesday practiced at the Miller Electric Center.

The Jaguars will visit the Cincinnati Bengals in a 2025 Week 2 game at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio, Sunday. A look at Wednesday around the Jaguars – with Head Coach Liam Coen speaking to the media before practice and quarterback Trevor Lawrence among multiple players speaking following practice:

Lawrence on what he wants against the Bengals after completing 19 of 31 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown with an interception in a 26-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers at EverBank Stadium in a Week 1 game this past Sunday.

"Just more and more consistency," Lawrence said. "I thought I left a few out there for sure that I can make, just a couple more plays. Obviously, the turnover is something you want to have back and limit those. If we can take care of the ball and play like we did, especially as well as the defense plays, we should be able to win a lot of games.

"Just finding a little bit more consistency is really the objective for me is just every play treating it as its own, continuing to play like that throughout the whole game. Don't have a series or two where I feel like I miss a couple throws or mentally kind of get off a little bit. Just stay consistent and sharp."

Lawrence completed 14 of 19 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown as the Jaguars took a 20-3 halftime lead Sunday, then completed one of six passes for 17 yards with an interception in the third quarter. He completed four of six passes for 33 yards and led field-goal drives of 49 and 38 yards in the fourth quarter.

"When you look at the operation, the way he handled things, all very, very positive," Coen said. "Made some critical third-down conversions and especially when we were trying to extend some drives in the second half, even after having a difficult third quarter.

"It's like, 'OK, it's there.' It's just the consistency of it, not having those five to six plays that you could be sitting there at 25-for-31 for 200-plus, and now you're like, "OK, shoot, this is a good outing.'

"There were great things to work from and I do believe we can continue to see an improvement week in and week out."

Look for rookie wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter to get more snaps defensively Sunday.

Hunter, the No. 2 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, played 42 snaps offensively and six defensively Sunday. The plan for the season is for him to play extensively on both sides of the ball – and Coen said Wednesday his defensive time could increase against the Bengals.

"It'll be a likely uptick," Coen said.

Coen said the expected increase in plays is more about a steady increase in Hunter's defensive workload than the Bengals having talented receivers such as Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

"It's more so, going into Week 1 it was 'OK, we know that it's not going to be a ton on defense,''' Coen said. "The goal is to increase and continue to increase. It just so happens that we're playing Cincinnati with two good wideouts this week."

Coen said game balls were awarded from the Carolina game to: Running back Travis Etienne Jr., the entire offensive line, linebacker Foyesade Oluokun, cornerback Jourdan Lewis and punter Logan Cooke.

Cornerback Montaric Brown returned to practice on a limited basis Wednesday after being out with an ankle injury since early in 2025 Training Camp.

Starting right tackle Anton Harrison practiced full Wednesday after leaving Sunday's game with a back injury and guard Cole Van Lanen practiced full after missing Sunday's game with a shoulder injury.

Rookie Wyatt Milum missed practice after missing Sunday's game with a knee injury.

Harrison is expected to play against the Bengals, Coen said.

"He had a little back soreness, but it's part of it," Coen said. "I was pleased with Anton, especially in pass protection – the whole group, but specifically Anton – and in the run game, did some really good things. I was pleased with his effort, strain, the way that he was battling through a little bit of a nick and battled through it.

"[He] came out for a short period, but I was pleased with his first outing."

The Jacksonville Jaguars gear up for practice this week at the Miller Electric Center for Week 2 of the 2025 NFL season.
