JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars on Wednesday practiced at the Miller Electric Center.
The Jaguars (9-4) will play the New York Jets (3-10) at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville Sunday in a 2025 Week 15 game. A look at Wednesday around the Jaguars – with Head Coach Liam Coen speaking to the media before practice and quarterback Trevor Lawrence speaking to the media after practice:
Focus is the objective.
And if maintaining that focus is a reason the Jaguars have won four consecutive games, Coen said Wednesday continuing to do so whatever the circumstance – and whatever the perception of the opponent – is simply the task at hand.
"It's any given Sunday in this league, as we know," Coen said, with defensive end Josh Hines-Allen adding, "We have to stay week by week. Obviously we know who we have next and who we have after that. We all look at our schedule, but we have to stay week by week."
Sunday against the Jets marks the lone Jaguars game in a three-week stretch against a team with a losing record. They beat the then-8-4 Indianapolis Colts 36-19 at EverBank Stadium Sunday and will visit the 11-2 Denver Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High next week.
"We're not in a position to be thinking about anything else but today and having a great day of preparation and work and practice and get ready for third downs tonight," Coen said. "That has to be the focus."
The Jaguars enter Sunday leading the Colts and Houston Texans (8-5) by a game in the AFC South. They have a current head-to-head tiebreaker advantage over the Colts because of last Sunday's victory and will visit the Colts in Week 17. The Texans will win the AFC South if the Jaguars and Texans both finish 12-5 with a Jaguars loss at Denver.
"We just have no room for [looking ahead] at all," Coen said. "We're just not in a place where we can say that. When you're trying to improve as a team, and there's still a lot to continue to correct on tape, it allows us to keep coaching and to keep trying to improve as a team.
"Mature football teams don't let any of that (looking ahead) creep into our minds and into our thought process. And so that's the message right now."
Said running back Travis Etienne Jr., "It shouldn't be hard for any of us to be week to week. Being professional, we understand, 'Man, if we don't go out there and take care of business this week, it's going to look whole different for us.'
"You can't get ahead in this league. They (the Jets) are a professional team. No matter what the schedule is, they're not coming here to lay down. We have to take each and every week and truly be week to week if we want to be the team we think we are." …
The Jaguars on Wednesday released the first of three injury reports for the week, with Lawrence practicing limited with an ankle injury.
Starting wide receiver Parker Washington, who missed Sunday's victory over the Colts with a hip injury, also practiced limited Wednesday Starting safety Andrew Wingard and left tackle Walker Little practiced limited Wednesday after missing the Colts game with concussions.
Other Jaguars players practicing limited Wednesday:
- Tight end Quintin Morris (ankle)
- Starting left guard Ezra Cleveland (shoulder)
- Rookie defensive end B.J. Green II (knee)
- Starting defensive end Travon Walker (knee)
- Cornerback Jarrian Jones (neck)
- Starting defensive tackle Arik Armstead (hand) practiced full Wednesday.
Offensive lineman Cole Van Lanen started for Little at left tackle last week, which marked the fifth position where he has started on the line this season. He has started at right tackle, left and right guard and "extra" tackle in the Jaguars' heavy personnel package.
Coen said Wednesday Van Lanen may have played well enough to earn a starting position.
"He played enough really good football for us," Coen said. "We've got a great situation right now where you've got depth at multiple positions of people that have had to play for us a lot. This shows up in multiple positions all throughout the team.
"The message in the locker room is, 'Hey guys, there's a lot of guys that are coming back right now, and for us to continue to go where we want to go, we've got to use that as an edge,' and that depth and experience that we've gotten has to be collective and having a team first mindset about everything we do." …
